Default Quaifes response to fitment problems with their LSD

Wrote an email to quaife and figured id let everyone read it.

Hello Allen,

The diff has always been in working order. It was made exactly to specification from the sample that we were provided from an Infiniti G35 with an automatic transmission. At the time, it was apparently believed that this was the more popular configuration. Wrong. As usual, when a product is rushed into the marketplace without thorough research, problems arise. In this case, more car owners were found to have the "other" differential that has a more offset crown ring flange. Therefore, we have produced precision spacers and longer ring gear bolts to accommodate both applications. These will be available this week.

The Quaife unit makes no discernable noise, not like you might experience with a clutch plate design. Once installed, you will very easily forget that it is there doing its job!

I hope one of these units find its way into your vehicle!

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,

Harleigh Williams
Quaife Aftermarket Manager

Guess that means everyone will be getting their quaifes installed very soon. GL

poor engineering research on Quaife's part... a simple online Google search could have told them there were differences in auto and 6mt lsds...

And possessing a working brain would tell you that most folks that woudl want a Quaife (i.e., enthusiasts and track rats) would also have a 6MT version of the car.

Boy -- what were they thinking designing this based upon a 5AT.

Tourque freaks talked to them this morning.

They have been shipped from the UK, and I'm told it should be here on Monday...

So with any luck, I'll have mine in on Tuesday of next week.

So to get rid of even more confusion, it was designed to fit a AT G35 with an open differential? Is that correct? So we have to have open differential axel stubs, and a Quaife spacer and bolts to fit this to a 6MT VLSD diff?

Really looks like more and more of a hack.

Sorry, but I feel a need to chime in. They were sent a 350Z Track pig that had a Nismo GT LSD & the 3.917 350EVO gears installed last December. Had it for over 2 months.

I don't like their response.

Sounds to me like they took a unit off the shelf, and HOPED it might work.......

Sounds like they never looked at the pig I sent them.

Worse than that, they NEVER tried their production unit in a 350Z.

As good as the Quaife diff's work, I can't understand their ineptitude/oversights.

BUT......let's hope that those that have purchased are happy!

If I ever get the dang thing installed, I'll be happy. I have a 2003 5AT G35s, and it did not fit. The crown ring flange offset problem is present in my application, too.

A couple days ago, I read an unsubstantiated report elsewhere on this forum that a Quaife installation on a 5AT 350Z went OK, but I have not seen any confirmation at this time.

This is so strange.
