My car grinds for a brief second...going from sixth to fifth when the car is cold. After a few minutes of driving it, it goes away. I've got almost 18k on it. Should i get it checked out at the dealership? Is it still under warranty?


Any thoughts

 

It only grinds on the downshift...is that weird?

My car is at the dealer right now for the exact same problem. They drained the trans fluid and said it had a lot of metal shavings in it, so now they're taking it apart to see what's going on inside. I have about 42k miles on the car.

 

Lots of Z owners, me included have this grinding problem. There are lots of threads out there regarding this. First its starts small, it only grinds in a particular gear and once in a while, then its on to two gears and all the time.

the popular gears seems to be 2nd, 3rd, and 5th.

At first, alot of 03 and 04s have this problem but I've heard a few 05 are begining to get it as well. If your car is under 36k miles it should still be under waranty. I would have the dealer check it out right away before it gets worse. some dealers will not fix the problem either cause they want to or whatever, either way, if your car still grinds call NNA and file an official complaint. It is well documented at NNA that Z's have this grinding problem.
