3rd gear grinding a lot, need help
My third gear seams to grind a lot. Its not due to my driving, but it happens either when I am shifting faster or spontainiously on easy shifts into 3rd. It only happens on third, no problems on the other gears. Any suggestions????

I wish it were that easy to get a new transmission. Star Nissan would be kicking and screaming before they give me a new transmission... they test drove the car and the damned car refuses to grind... ugh. Anyone in NYC have a dealer aside from Star Nissan that they went to and successfully got a new transmission from? Thanks.
By the way, what are your VIN#'s for the grinding trannys?
There was a poll of VIN#'s earlier and they all seemed to be in the 001-999 range for the grinding trannys... too coincidental I'd say.

I don't know if I can get mine to do it all of the time, but I can get it to do it if I drive it harder, I think my vin is 2931?? Is it the last numbers of your VIN?

Any updates on this problem? I have been having it for awhile and I want to solve it while under warranty. I have a low VIN# and my 3rd gear has gotten to the point where it will grind first thing on a cool morning even with the clutch to the floor! Even during everyday driving, I tend to grind it ALOT...I have owned several manual vehicles and everyone screws up every now and then, but on fast shifts it seems like I have to conciously think to press the clutch against the floorboard when I shift into third.
HELP!~!

I got my tranny replaced and the inproved clevis pin installed back in July for grinding that always happened on high RPM shifts from 2nd-3rd and sometimes at random times. It got to the point where I could literally push the clutch down flat to the floor and not be able to get it into any gear at times. I demonstrated this to the service manager and his grit his teeth and asked no questions.
My dealer ordered the new and "improved" tranny and let me know when it was in (about a week) dropped it off in the morning, picked it up that evening and it was better then new. The gear changes are deffinatly more crisp. No problems since.
But I have heard that they might not be do tranny swaps anymore shortly (heard this back in July) because it was getting too expensive and they were just gonna ship out parts for replacement. That means opening up your entire tranny!
I got mine done just in time.

Mine has been grinding in 3rd occasionaly. I've got over 13,000 miles. I hope that's not true that they're only repairing transmissions now and not replacing them. But mine isn't grinding enough to get it repaired/replaced, it happens once every 1 or 2 days.

The synchros in the trannys are defective. The only fix is a new transmission and clevis. MAJOR design defect. Yet another in a long line. Mine did it in 5th gear. Last straw...I traded out. Known Nissan issue. You won't have a problem getting a new tranny. Call NNA and file a complaint, then go to the dealer.
