The Z is getting heavier for 2006

seriously, quarter mile is very limitative test of a car weight...
150lbs is a ****load of extra weight for a car on a twisty track(or road) where conserving momentum is crucial.. Extra weight does not translates only into slower acceleration... but also longer braking distances, more roll, slower response, etc...... it all adds up to be a poor experience overall.
3400lbs is rediculous. EVEN the power to weight ratio of new Z with 300hp engine is actually lower than the old 287 Zs!!!
3400 - 300 = 11,33 lbs per HP
3250 - 287 = 11.32 lbs per HP
that's hardly an improvement...

It would be nice to know where the extra weight actually is. Wheels can be swapped out for lighter forged ones, no problem there. If they changed to a heavier tire, again that's easy to swap when you do the wheels. Bigger brakes are going to add some weight, but since that weight is at the wheels, it shouldn't hurt handling much, only straight line accel. People with aftermarket BBKs don't seem to mind the extra weight. Extra weight in the suspension should also not hurt handling much.
The rest of the weight that is in the body is the real issue for handling, I think. I suppose you can rip out all of your sound dampeing material, put the carpet back down and lose a few pounds, along with removing the wiper, spare and jack removal, and still have a nice looking interior. It would just be louder.
The headlights can't weigh that much...

thats alot of weight added... 2 be honest i prefer the older model of the 350z better... I could honestly care less about the nicer interior, thats not why I bought the car. I got my car down to about 3130 with my sound system removed. imagine tryin to get the newer ones down to that weight
Sorry all, I was in a bad mood when I posted that and looking for a fight. I retract my chidish, generalistic statements of earlier. I will stick to contributory posts from now on.
PEACE.
PEACE.
Is it just me or does it seems like some of the people complaining about the weight of the Z have added 200+ pounds of stereo equipment to their car. Dunno, maybe it is just me noticing this...
