wonder if the headlights and taillights are heavier
those extra interior parts are probably heavier - not by much though

otherwise who knows. Takes a lot to = 150 lbs

My guess on the weight gain is...

I think all models including the base get the new wheels... so instead of 17 inchers, they changed to 18inchers (i dont think they are lightweight?)

Then... the new engine might be a little heavier due to the new parts.

New suspension parts and bigger brakes could add a little weight as well.

The new bi-xenons might ad a litttttle weight... possibly a new battery?

Could have added more noise dampening?

I realyl dont know... but with all these changes, maybe they didnt pay attn to the weight and it just got plump over all these added new parts?

yeah... my canadian performance(~US 6mt touring) in owner's manual is quoted at 3247lbs

I believe the new Z has bigger brakes, bigger wheels, more carpeting, more sound deadening material, more and heavier plastic, more "options", etc... it doesn't take much to go up 100-150lbs.

we probably owe it to all the complainers

the ones that won't shut up about the "cheap" interior
the headlights that "aren't bright enough"
needing larger than 17" wheels - even if they're cast

the brakes I understand
the engine and suspension parts I can understand
but seriously how much can those 3 things weigh in at?

The Z is becoming the new luxury car

I too blame the whiny girly men that must have a computer tell them where to turn and a little seat warmer to keep their fragile little buns toasty. The Z is too heavy to begin with. I remember after purchasing it I was arguing with a friend about the weight and couldn't believe it weighed 3200 for a two seater enthusiast model. Ah well at least it gives us an advantage over the 06 in auto-x.

i'd blame it on crash test ratings, im sure it had to gain more weight for them.

I know the 06 standards in crash tests were more precise. Also gotta think, different exterior parts, more standard features, bigger rims. I can see an extra 80lbs comes in, but Im lost on the rest

actually it's closer to 2 tenths .... and it's not as if it was that fast in the first place.

seriously, quarter mile is very limitative test of a car weight...

150lbs is a ****load of extra weight for a car on a twisty track(or road) where conserving momentum is crucial.. Extra weight does not translates only into slower acceleration... but also longer braking distances, more roll, slower response, etc...... it all adds up to be a poor experience overall.

3400lbs is rediculous. EVEN the power to weight ratio of new Z with 300hp engine is actually lower than the old 287 Zs!!!

3400 - 300 = 11,33 lbs per HP
3250 - 287 = 11.32 lbs per HP

that's hardly an improvement...

Whats the big freakin deal? If you dont like it, take it out. Do what we all did with the other models and put the fat lady on a diet. Hell there are a few ferarris that weight more than that. The modena hits over 3400 if I remember right, Hell the 612 Scaglietti weighs over 4k lbs.

The Lamborghini murcelago weights over 3600 lbs I think.

Granted all these cars have a hell of alot more power than 300 horses, but strip all three of those cars down and theyll scream, and so will the Z.

Someone who buys a Z without modding it or screwing with it in someway just bought it because

A.) daddy bought it for them.
B.) They want people to look at them

and we will most likely never see those people on the track.

ok off of my soapbox now.

I do see everyones point though...to an extent.

I don't think it's possible to remove more than ~150lbs from a car without destroying it.

I had a hard time removing 120lbs off of mine without compromissing the car. Never will it be possible to shave 350lbs off these cars... they will shave 150lbs if they are lucky.

BTW a 360 modena is less than ~3200lbs
Even new corvette is 3199lbs.

the 350z is now in the fatso league with such cars as... mustang GT(3450lbs) and BMW M3(3415lbs).

That's a lie. Sometimes people don't have the urge to do it b/c they are merely happy with what it is. To say that they have it b/c "daddy bought it" or that people want them to look at it is a massive prejudice. Just like me saying b/c all you have are interior/audio mods, you just want attention to your soundsystem. But no, I didn't say that or mean it, b/c it's prolly not true.

And for the record, I do mod my car, lol.
