Default Nismo Cams

Hey everyone. I am planning on keeping my Z NA and I have a question for those with the Nismo cams. Is the car still drivable with them. I know Nismo designed them as R-tune and they are more race cams. I know Tony at performance nissan took them out because the car was acting up with them. My car is an 04(or 04.5 I am not sure ) and if I do get them... would it affect my car. How would the ecu respond to it after I get it reflashed.

Hope you're not daily driving your Z with Nismo cams. Those cams will only stress the motor faster, shortening its life. I don't have many mods because I want my car to last a long time... it's a daily driver.

Boy you are Mr.Positive Nismo cams are not far from the stock specs and do not require changing out valve springs. You would need a bump in idle up to about 850 rpm and possibly the idle stabilizing kit from Performance Nissan because of the year of your car. These cams will not effect the lifespan of the motor....contrary to what Mr.Positive says.

The cams will not stress the motor to the point that it will wear it down any faster.
However from personal experience, I had the nismo R-tune cams in my car and i took them out. the power was nice, very noticeable, however it's the driveability issues that killed it for me. My car had periodic stalling issues even after a reflash. I then installed the idle kit that we sell online, and it helped tremendously, but we just couldn't get the tune down right and we had constant SES lights that were troublesome. My car is a 2004, I know that the 2003s do not have these issues. Some 2004s do and some don't so it's really all a toss up. They are a nice mod for power, but it's too hard to say without installing them weather or not your 2004 will have the exact same issues. I've known some people out there that do not have issues on their 2004s...... JWT or Nismo cams are the way to go, both are very nice...

yeah the later 2004's and higher can't adjust idle and will die from what I understand. The 2003's and early 2004's can adjust it.

They're very very mild cams. 10-16hp won't kill the engine with it's longevity. I'm sure it doesn't help, but still not much to worry about

I get a SES code too - multi misfire code. So far the idea is that it's my tilton clutch or lean A/F or too much timing, or my JWT cams, or all of the above.

Thats why Im asking Tony what his code was . I changed four things all at once , CAS wire , cams , 550 injectors , and return fuel system and have gotten the code ever since .

my SES didn't actually come on until after my TS reflash - but who knows, sometimes when I reset my ECU, the SES doesn't come on for a couple days/5-6 startups. Other times it comes on at 2nd startup after the reset.

If you get a reflash, you can have TS or AAM permanently change your idle to 850 or whatever you want. That's the BEST way IMO. Otherwise if you have the nissan dealer change it - it's temporary until you disconnect your battery or the battery dies. Then it's stall city with the stock 600rpm idle

This sisnt true...I have an 03 G35...dealer changed my idle to 825 and its stayed there on many ECU resets and confirmed with my OBDII

when you say ECU resets, you mean the pedal method or disconnecting the battery?

If so then that's pretty cool - didn't know that. Someone told me the consult II stuff was temporary and would revert back to stock
