Well I was depressed for a while regarding my modifications. I got used to driving the Z and was starting to consider my mods a waste of money.

I have a 2003 track with these engine mods.
Borla TD
JWT Pop charger
Plenum spacer
UR underdrive
Not to mention full suspension and other goodies.

Saw a spec edition 2005 Z and lined up against it at the light. It was a chick so I wasnt planning on racing but at the light she spun her tires and floored it. I floored it as well and made up the lost space quickly and began to walk away from her despite the fact that she shifted well. By 70 I had half a car length.


This isnt a bragging race story. I thought it belonged in the engine section because like me I assumed many of you were wondering if your mods really made a difference. Sure my car sounds good but it made me happy to know that it performs better than stock as well and the difference is evident.

So I hope this post cheers up others who have spent some cash on simple bolt ons.

Every Z is rated + or - twenty hp... alot of the 03 Z's were over rated. Dyno your car and you will find your answer!

Id be pissed if she spun and I only beat her by 1/2 car with mods. I havent raced any 300hp models but rest assured they'd be seeing some Daytona Blue pulling away quick, just like every NA Z Ive ever raced. They are same 1/4 as the 03's anyways....

 

I think he meant the 287hp 05. You need to come to Nashville so I can run you. Not really expecting to win, but it would be fun.

 

If he only won by 1/2 car on the 287 model thats even worse, lol. Id love to run you but unfortunately I wont be taking a trip to BFE anytime soon.

The Dragon is fun to drive, but very dangerous. It kinda scares me knowing that you are hauling *** on a road that is on the side of a mountain. We could run on a local road tho.

 

I knew there would be someone so quick to say me nay. Dude I was sleeping at the light! I wasnt even going to race but I didnt want some chick thinking her car was faster!
And of course she didnt spin that much. There was just a chirp and she was gone. I was able to see her plate and taillights. I guess spun was the wrong word.

Anyway she was way ahead of me. I think because of the tire slip the VDC checked her and this helped me almost catch up. ( I would have been impressed if she thought to turn off VDC.) I have lost at least three races because I forgot to turn off VDC and my throttle got cut!

It ended up that we wre both side by side and accelerating. It was obvious my car had the power. IT felt so good to see her dropping back. I was walking away throughout my powerband.
No, it was a special edition. Brembo Brakes and those ugly five spoke wheels. Yes 300 HP. Those extra horses cost the 2005 some torque too.

No she looked to be almost 40 and pretty butch. Looked kinda like Tom Cruise in Top Gun!


Again I post just because there was alot of speculation as to whether Bolt on mods are worth it for the Z. I was wondering myself.

The Borla made my Z sound great and the JWT did the same as well. The pulley made a very small (but noticeable) difference, but the major gainer was the plenum spacer. When I put that baby on it made a very noticeable difference. I do not doubt the claims of 10 to 15 RWHP for a minute.
All together with the mods I am happy. I can beat M3s and have done so quite a few times.
Its just nice that I was able to get a good datum for comparison.

 

Sounds good man, spun was not the correct word, uz if she had spun as bad as you made it seem that would have more than made up for the sleeping at the light. Glad to see people modding the Z correctly NA, you dont have to tell me about how bolt-ons can dramatically increase the Z's power, and trap speed down the 1/4...nice job
