check out bobistheoilguy.com for the tests and stuff. The straight race synthetic by RP is some of the best stuff you can get, but not the regular synthetic.
I personally use Mobil 1 with K&N oil filters....have no complaints so far

the race synthetic says "race oil" or something like that. let me see here.....
here's the racing oil: http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpro.html
and here's the regular stuff, probably what you're using: http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpmoa.html
If you're using synthetic there's absolutely no reason to change every 3k. I go at least 5k with Mobil 1, and the K&N filter seems to last 6-8k without getting horribly bad (had 'em tested)
I know Mobil 1 10w30 (which I use) tends to thin out under extreme temps, but my Z isn't FI like my other cars were, and I used it in those with no problems. I just prefer to use 10w30 instead of the 5w30 the factory recommends (i think they do so to keep hp numbers up due to less parasitic drag in the engine.)

if you used 20w50 I think you're okay, but 20w50 is far too thick 'n heavy! lol.
Using the RP isn't bad, I just don't like the fact that it thins out so much. Last time I used it I was breaking in a fresh turbo on an engine and I used 2.5qts of the 10w30 RP and a quart of Valvoline full Race synthetic (straight 50w!) and everything was kosher...I just wanted to make sure everything lubed well
Next oil change I'd suggest swapping over to Mobil 1. BTW, Please, don't EVER EVER EVER use a Fram filter of any kind, too
