Default Idle adjustment

Does anyone know how to adjust the idle without changing the ecu? I just want to raise the idle from 700 to 1000 so that it idles smoother.

Thanks.

My dealer said it was "normal" and wouldn't bump it up for free.

What a rip off, all they HAD to do was hook up the consult which is just plugging it into the port, and go to the screen for idle and adjust it, took all of 10 minutes, I was there so I saw it, I am just saying how much time it took, not sure if they can justify the cost, mine was free as the tech is a buddy of mine. At the same time I had him increase the timing of course when I was NA.

What would increasing the timing do? And what did you increase it to?

S/C's tend to sound loud at idle and upping the rpm reduces the sound.

you don't want to increase ignition timing on these engines as they're already close to the ragged edge of knock on 93 octane gas.................if you bump up ignition timing the knock sensor will go crazy and bump back timing, killing power.

besides I don't see any worthwhile gains in bumping timing.

I've done it myself with a consult. The whole process takes about 7 minutes start to finish. The ONLY thing that could make this take longer is if the car wasn't at operating temp as the Consult doesn't allow you to make changes until the car is at 195 F. But thats IT. And it just takes a quick lap around the block to change that. As for advancing timing you can only bump it up 3 degrees more advanced or retarded then stock via the Consult. When N/A advancing it 3 degrees helps the car pull a little better through the midrange. This was a popular mod in the QR25 crowd.

I had mine increased and had no problems, as mentioned it does help.

I had mine advanced 4 degress and after a while it looked like it was solid at 3 degrees advanced, when he had the consult it alllowed him +-5 degrees.

It will let you go +/- 5 but it only will actually store a +/- 3 degress on the ECU.

holy crap... those US dealers are crazy.... we got those type of services (raise the rpm) for FREE... and whenever you drive the car into the dealer, the car should be at its optimal operating temp. anyway... so it should be just a 5 to 10 mins job... Probably down in Australia, we have already paid for those services when we buy our cars at much higher prices than you guys over there..

cheers,

richie

To my knowledge only up to the 04.5 model. After that I think its a locked out feature...I haven't tried personally though. My idle is at 900 using the Turbonetics flash.
