Splitting the OBD-II lines is fine however having two diagnostics devices trying to read sensors at the same time will not work. If CIPHER (or any other tool) tries to communicate at the same time as your other device, neither one will work. It's best to just swap them out when you need to.

CIPHER will let you run normal timing +2 degrees all the time. I'm not sure what you mean by FULL ADVANCE. Just take what your car does now and add 2.

Hmm, that might convince me not to get the Cipher, then. I know it has more functions, but I don't want to boot my computer every time, and I don't want to have to switch. Maybe I can make some sort of KVM type switch...

Whatever. How is your Blitz R-Vit connected now? Cable just plugged into OBD-II port? When you take the car to dealer, do you disconnect Blitz box?
Switch should work also.
What would be your needs for both Blitz and Cipher at the same time?
I had the fortune to meet up with uprev this afternoon as he is in the bay area for a few days. He gave me a rundown of the software and hooked it up to my Z and showed me how it works. With logging and error code reading and clearing, it was very interesting. The gauges in action on the PC are awesome as well, this thing is way better than the data logger I was running on my palm.
Long story short, my order is in. I can't wait.

J1962F Assembly
CAN pins:
5 Ground
6 Data
14 Data
16 Power
Probably only pins 6 and 14 are needed.

In order for Cipher to work correctly (or any scan tool) it will need pins 4, 5, 7, 6, 14, and 16. Keep in mind that if you are extending/splitting the CAN bus (pins 6 and 14) you could introduce errors if you add signal reflection or otherwise change the electrical characteristics of the BUS. I'd suggest checking out the ISO15765 documents and doing lots of tests to make sure the ECUs in the car aren't throwing can bus related codes after you mess with it.
This might have already been coverd....so if it has i'm sorry.
I am very computer STUPID! and was wondering how user friendly this interface will be. I know that there won't be a botton that says " go fast" or anything...lol

I have only begun to scratch the surface. This tool is amazing. Control of ECU, ABS, and BCM. And I mean control... I had no idea it would be able to put windows up/down, lock and unlock doors, open trunk, sound horn, turn on/off lights etc.
Amazing...
Amazing...
