Both should be replaced. That was part of the recall.

now to see if my baby gets it done for free:

Recall Date:
NOV 17, 2003

Model Affected:
2003 NISSAN 350Z

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.

Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

Potential Units Affected:
630000

Notes:
NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. R3021/R3022

think the foot pedal reset is the same? I did that and the issue came back. Thinking about removing the battery for a day or two.

replaced the actual bank 1 sensor...........everything seems good. I crank it 4 times and the code did not come back.

Going to go for a ride and see if the code pops up again.

P0340 visited me when we rolled 60,100 miles. The sensor is $58, but I'm headed to the dealership to insist it be replaced from the recall.

Dealership said my 9/03 production 04' was not covered under the recall. Funny thing is that the tech who greeted me - and attempted to help me - said he knew nothing about any 03' sensor recall. I informed him the recall number, and reiterated that 630,0000 03' Nissan vehicles were recalled, and promptly asked for a senior technician.

We got the right part, and after wrestling with the clip on the sensor for a while, all is good now. I'm still not convinced that there was a special "basket" of "new" connectors for the 04' Z33s, as there were 04' models included in the second round of recalls on that same sensor. For $60, it wasn't worth me arguing about it and having the car continue to run like *** and strand me - or worse yet - my wife, while running errands. Once the car is warmed up, it's a bear to start again after shutting it off.

Enjoy,
SS

If it's the Cam Angle Sensor, "bank 1", it's PN 23731-6J90B "Sensor Assy".
