So I dropped my Z off at the nissan dealer this morning. They called and said it was done at lunch but when I showed up to pick it up, it threw the same code again and didnt want to start. They realized they changed my crank sensor and not the cam sensor... so they fixed it and I was able to return after work today to pick it up. When I got it after work it seemed like all was well... and I havent had any problems yet. (knocks on wood). I drove it about 30 miles since picking it up this evening. Cost $320. Time: 1 full day at the dealer.

they ripped you again.. crankshaft sensor is easier to change and faster to change than a tire.. its basically sitting under the bottom of the tranny.. you use a socket to remove it and then replace the other one.. it takes less than 5 mins

if your car was starting before, i think the idiot tech who replaced your camshaft sensor replaced the crankshaft sensor by mistake, then they realized it when they went back to fix the code. They probably didn't even put in a new crankshaft sensor.. just realized the fcked up and swapped the old one back on to the tranny

yeah, they replaced the crank sensor instead of the cam sensor and when they realized it (because i saw "crank sensor" on the invoice and code P0340 is for CAM sensor) and called them on it... then they tried the car and it didnt start right up and threw the code again... they went ahead and replaced the cam sensor... i doubt they pulled the new crank sensor out and put the old one back in, but they did give me a new cam sensor and a couple free oil changes for my trouble.

Im sure the labor was a rip off... but it always is and when your Z is your DD and you work M-F there aren't a lot of options; had to get to work the next day.

So what's the trick in removing the cam sensor from the green harness? I found another thread about it but it didn't describe how to remove it without damaging the harness. Any help is appreciated.

I found this on an Infiniti FX forum....

"The hardiest part was figuring out how to remove the sensor from the Clip.. didn't want to force and break anything, after 20+ mins of scratching my head finally got it out. It was so simple to get it out, just squeeze the release with a needle nose and it pop right out."

So the sensor replacement is just plug and play with maybe an ECU reset after? I had the P0340 code a few months back, and now I just got the P0345 code. This time I'm changing it myself, and I really think the dealerships are full of crap for trying to sell an ECU "reflash" after this.

I might change out the crankshaft sensor to be on the safe side.
