Default VQ in a 300z?

I have been doing some researching and have not seen the swap yet. Please only serious posts please. I am contemplating the swap because of a few reasons. First, the obvious discplacement would be nice. Second, the VG only has 4 main bearings. In my quest for 900-1000rwhp, it seems the bearings would not withstand that type of punishment. If anyone has seen this swap or could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Tim

I was trying to do some research on this......but I really thought that the 300Z engine was more easily able to handle high HP numbers because it was cast iron.....I can't seem to find references though.

If this is true....you would rather have a stock 300(TT) motor to start with to build to 700-1000......anybody else chime in?

isn't the engine bay of the z32 already extremely tight, is it even possible to fit the larger block into there w/o major cutting and fabrication? sorry to reply to your question w/ another question...

not worth it imo. small engine bay, big price tag, and replacing a stout turbo engine with an n/a engine is not such a great idea.

It is a great engine, up to about 750rwhp. After that the main bearings will start going. I am trying to find ways to keep my Z but still make 900rwhp+. If you do run across something please let me know!

isnt the highest hp VG like 850 whp? The VQ would be lighter and make more torque than the VG but its going to cost 3 times the amount of money to the VQ to those kinds of levels reliably.

There has been a couple street powered VG's with over 1000rwhp. It wouldn't cost anymore to build the VQ than to build the VG. I think I may have to wait to see what kind of numbers the VQ will put down.

Stick with the VG. You can get more power out of it with bending you over in the wallet. The VQ is very $$$$$$$$$$$tingyyyyyyyyyyyy.

RB in my future details soon.

Stick with VG, it can handle alot more HP than VQ. Another thing is, for Japanese import, bigger engine is not necessary better. If you really really want to swap an engine and don't mind challenges, then swap to RB26.

I've seen a VQ30DET swapped into a Z32. I have some pics of it somewhere, I figure the only reason for doing it is the weight reduction. That VG is damn heavy.

im also planing to swap out my 600hp vg engien fore a vq.. but i will wait to se the results of those sleeved vq`s
i also have problems with the bearings+ i use my 300zx mostley fore track/race so the weight reduction of 220 lbs in the front off the car wile make a huge difference

the engine will fit in the engine bay....
this link shows a japanse car with the engine swap...

Yes it will. Pistons cost more, rods cost more, and you will need to sleeve the block for 800+ hp. so yeah.

I don't know where you get your parts from but I can get rod's cheaper, piston's are just a little more. The only thing that will cost more is to sleeve the block. I think I have decided to keep the Z32 as my daily and just buy a Z33 and start the build.
