got the JWT kit from Avalon Racing (good guys btw). took the Z into SGP Racing yesterday morning and also got the Nismo Pilot Bushing and the SGP SS clutch line to go with it.

the first thing i noticed was the clutch pedal travel was greatly reduced. i'd say the travel is about 60-70% of what it used to be. Also, the clutch is a bit stiffer, but thats ok b/c you dont have much distance to push the clutch anyways.

The engagement comes immediatlely off the floor. This was totally different from stock. The shifts are a bit quicker, since the flywheel is so light. Overall it's a different beast....for the better. I think the Z is easier to drive now and I cant wait for the complete break in.

I would recommend the JWT kit for anyone who needs a new clutch!

another note....there is some very slight chatter at idle, but my Z always had idel chatter, so its about 20% louder....no big deal. if im in gear and under between 1000-1500rpm there is some noticleable chatter but lasts about .5 sec and goes away immediately over 15000rpm

labor and parts came to about $1150

this is up for debate on forums. i would say it places less stress on the drivetrain and allows shifts to be smoother and rev-matching to happen faster. you would think there would be some power freed up, but some people say flywheels dont free up power. however if you think about adding a HUGE flywheel that weights like 300 lbs you would see a decrease in power, im sure. it might a few HP, but its not noticable. its more for the feel and torque holding

Yes, but not in a horsepower sense. It allows for quicker accelleration, but doesn' add any hp. Its the same priniciple as taking weight off of your car.

yeah but this aftermarket clutch also reduces overall clutch slippage, thereby increasing stress on the drivetrain. correct me if i'm wrong but the stock clutch is supposed to slip under stressful situations so that the tranny won't be destroyed. installing a jwt, nismo, jun, tilton, act,...whatever decreases slippage. again, i'm a noob, so correct me if i'm wrong.

the kit does come with a pressure plate. the kit is rated at 550tq iirc.

i have never heard of a clutch automatically slipping under stress. a clutch 'slipping" is caused by loss of friction between the flywheel and clutch disk. if your clutch "slips" whenever you gun it you would cause VERY serious wear and burn marks on your flywheel and disk. you would also glaze the clutch material basically baking the material to the point where it glazes over and loses its friction.

now if you have enough power, your clutch would slip if you did not upgrade the clutch. i think the stock clutch is good upto about 350-375whp and after that you'll have to upgrade. also, if you have enough power you'll simply spin out your tires (or worse, snap an axle).

hell yeah it does, except it may be harder to launch

it gives you speed on the horizontal plane on a dyno curve - it won't show up when the graph is showing power and RPM's

it'll only show up when looking at power and speed

Picked the car up today after having the JWT combo installed. The car feels great, pedal feels slightly lighter, and revs soooo freely, especially at lower rpm's. I really feel a difference in how much faster the car seems to get into powerband from lower rpm's(I also have a crank pulley fwiw). The clutch chatters some but its brand new I expect that to go away or get slightly better, even now its not bothersome to me. And its only 10% louder than stock at idle, and makes the cement truck noise only when you lug it at low rpm;s like 3rd gear 10mph. 2000rpm's and up no sound. Id love to run the car NA with this combo, I def think it can help get me out of the hole quicker, and maybe free up another mph but we will never know, boost next week

So my car is at dealer with 59,000 miles to address the 3rd gear grind. The dealers have taken the tranny apart and said that my JWT flywheel + NISMO clutch is completely "cooked" after 15k miles. I haven't taken the car to the track, nor race it, or drop the clutch at a high RPM.

The service people in Santa Monica said that it is because the parts are mis-matched - does anybody else have the same set up or problems?

that would not lead to the parts being cooked...my dealer tried to convince me my clutch was making my pedal squeek...and when my trans got replaced and saw my clutch had nothing to do with it they reimbursed me for my install of my setup

dimebag I'll let you try the JWT combo on my car. I think you'll enjoy it. Its a very good Clutch flywheel combo.
