Default Best 350z Upgrades....(UK newbie)

Hi guys, i'm new here so go easy on me lol.

I have an 04 350z here in the UK and would like to fit some new parts to hopefully unleash a bit more power; so far I only have the JWT Pop charger.

I've spent a bit of time having a quick read about on the forum (very interesting!) and have seen alot of people talk about the Plenum spacer kit from MotorDyne and this looks like a nice upgrade to me although i'm unsure of which one to go for tbh.....5/16?? Any downsides and how easy to fit?

Also I have a mate that works for HKS europe and he is able to get me parts at good prices so i'm thinking of going for an exhaust; do they only make one? The Hi Power True dual 32009-BN001? Also are there any other HKS parts I should take a look at

With an exhaust, popcharger and possibly a plenum spacer of some variety would this cause the engine to run lean and require a remap to ensure correct AFR? If so what are the options. I'm hoping you will tell me all is fine and that the Z has an adaptive ECU that doesnt need any kind of Piggyback system/chip upgrade to correct its AFR lol. Cheapskate

One last thing...who is the best supplier in the USA? doubt there's anybody in the UK will be able to supply the plenum spacer and I have family in New Jersey

Cheers in advance guys

Hey Gary,

First of all, I love UK cuz it's the country that gives us Top Gear
Anyhow, you've started off on the right foot by getting the Pop Charger.

Plenum spacer is one of the cheapest mods that you can do and gain fairly
good amount of hp. I would say go with Motordyne 5/16 spacer.
I have one and I'm very happy with it. No need for 1/2 spacer; 5/16 will
give you just as much performance gain if not more.
I don't see any downside on the 5/16 spacer because you can keep your
stock strut bar, just make sure you have enough clearance.

HKS high power dual exhaust...GET IT.
One of the best exhausts you can get for the Z. I think it makes the most
power also? One think I can surely say is that it's expensive and
makes CRAZY *** noise!
I wish I had the money to swap my NISMO exhaust for it...

As far as ECU reflash option, I'm not so sure because if there's any
difference in tuning US, JAP, and European versions.
Here in US, we have option of ECU reflash service from Technosquare
and Altered Atmosphere.
I have performed ECU reflash on my Z, but to be honest I don't think it's worth
it unless you get more mods for it. I say once you add more mods that above
listed, you can go for it.

Also look into more mods such as high flow CAT, crank pully, headers, etc.
There's a lot more stuff you can add on to squeeze more power from your Zed.
But if you want massive bump up on hp, you can always go with F/I

I say the best supplier in USA is Performance Nissan parts.
You can check them out at www.mynismo.com
Also, their staff Jason, Tony, Andy, and Jeff are all active members of this forum as well.
If you have some questions just go ahead and PM any of them and
they'll help you out.

Excellent thanks for the very detailed reply mate

...odd you should mention Top Gear lol, i've just watched the last of the current series (JC drives an NSX around Laguna Seca!)

Cool, I think I shall order the 5/16 plenum spacer...hopefully it wont be too hard to fit

Fairly sure the HKS exhaust wont cost me too much as I am able to get it for cost plus shipping and tax....will probably get that also

Hopefully with these mods the car wont lean out, I will probably get it checked anyways and we have a company here in the UK (Super Chips )that are able to perform chip upgrades so i may speak to them about mapping.

I may think about DC Headers for the future although these look to be a pain to fit so will go with the above for now to see how she goes

...Once again thanks for your helpful reply

Hey you're very welcome=)
Looks like you do your own installs. Well, spacer install shouldn't be too hard.
Go to Motordyne's website and they have the installation manual.
You might want to check it out before ordering.

You're one lucky bloke if you can get that HKS exhaust at discounted price.
Here in US, it goes for around $1,500(1,100 pounds?), so if you can
get it any cheaper than that that would be cool.

Currently, my car has JWT Pop Charger, 5/16 plenum spacer, and NISMO exhaust,
and it's running a bit lean at A/F ratio of 13.5 and drops down rich to 12.5 before redline.
I guess it's alright, since it produced same A/F ratio when it was stock.
My ECU's back to stock for now, and it doesn't seem like i need reflash
until I add more mods.

I was also looking at DC headers...but I might just end up getting NISMO headers...we'll see.
I say you get high flow CATS and exhaust before headers tho; no point of
getting headers if you can't free all that air fuel out.

I'm a BIG Top Gear fan lol
I have every single episodes from last three years.
I say it's the best TV show e.v.e.r.
Anxiously waiting for the last episode to finish downloding....

hi Gary, I'm in the Uk too and used to post on 350ZUk.com. they are shutting down at the end of the year and oepning an owner's club with most of the forum content for paying members only... one of the many reasons why I won't be joining them.
Look @ my sig: I have CAI+ plenum+hi flow cats+exhaust fitted as well as a few more bits and pieces.
Would not bother with either underdrive pullies nor headers to be honest, gain is minimal and difficutly/pain in installing is high.

ECU wise we are stuck in the UK, as enither technosquare nor AA will touch a euro spec ECU. they are different from US ones. Unichip seems to have been the choice of the very few people who tried touching the ECU in N/A motors, but no concrete results have been shown, at least to my knowledge

gsazabi- cheers mate, the AFR info is useful...i'm thinking it will be fine

TheMinel, I recognise you from 350zuk With regards to the ECU i wouldn't necessarily be looking for gains, just want to ensure it runs safe and that the fuel map is optimised. I have a contact at superchips so may speak to him to find out if they have done a 350z before PS. Nice car!

Hi gary

Ecu wise in the Uk you best bet is a piggyback like Daaztec unichip after you have done your planned mods.

There are alot of differences from the uk to us ecu systems so it is not as easy for us to remap.

I'm looking to buy a plenum spacer and am wondering if its necessary to go with the ISO THERMAL PLENUM or is it ok to go with just the BASIC PLENUM SPACER. Are the Iso Thermal components, Aramid gasket and CCV necessarry. Its only like a $50 different which doesn't bother me but $50 is $50.

I'd say go test pipes, plenum spacer, crank pulley and popcharger

Same here, but I'd ue high flow cats instead of the test pipes--the test pipes are too noisy for me.

UR pulleys here, running strong so far.

Make sure to get the crank pulley only, the rest are for show and dont give performance gains.

What are the benfits and drawbacks (if any) to changing the stock crank pulley? Also is it difficult to fit....seems like it would be to me

Revsport, i've heard good things about the dastek chip in the past. Do you know if anyone on the forum runs a Perfect Power SMT6? I noticed it is listed in the products list on this forum.....I actually have one fitted to control the fuel map on my Renault Sport Clio 182

...wonder if HKS do hi flow cats

PS. This threads getting real interesting....good input from you guys; thanks. Oh and happy new year!!

UR crank pulley is much lighter than the stock crank pulley, this loss in weight will be translated into adding some HP.

If you keep reading threads you wont end up getting any mod for you car. I mean every single different thread about adding mods, you'll see some people posting props and others posting cons about there experience.

I was somehow afraid when I got my crank pulley because my Z is JDM version and I could'nt find if the UR pulley is going to work fine with me, but yes its running strong so far.
