It is highly unlikely that you will be able to turbo a 13.5:1 compression engine. In cars that are turboed the compression is usually 10:1 or less. That is why Acura Type R and Civic Type R engines do not take too knidly to turbo.

If you want a relaible turbo engine you need to have 9:1 or even 8:1 compression. You will certainly blow a 13.5:1 engine if you trubo it.

We run those sorts of compression ratios in our small bore GT cars (SCCA Nissan 200SX tubeframe) and use primarily Phillips 66 race gas in B32 or B33 blends. B32 is 114 research octane (up to 13:1) and B33 is 118.

BTW- in case anyone's interested, B33 in a 55 gallon lot is about $4.30/gallon and B33 is around $5.10/gallon.

I have just returned to Australia from the Tokyo Auto Salon & the Nismo motor was displayed on a stand in front or the Red #23 Z33 mock up race car that has been photographed many times. In another part of the Nismo stand new cyl heads, cams, pistons & exhaust extracters were on display & from what I could understand they will be available from about April as R tune parts. The display motor is a full race motor & I would estimate its price at around the US$50,000.00.
The HKS motor was also a development motor & no parts were yet available for sale except for flywheel & multi plate clutch & cyl head gaskets.
Both of these motors will be top dollar full race aplications with big penlum covers over the trumpets.
If you check out www.nissan.co.za click on paris daker and then check specs you will see a 3.5 v6 like the nismo motor. also check out www.harmsy.freeuk.com/keeperscot/3ltrv6.htm This motor costs 40,000 British Pounds & is using Pectel ECU

That is the engine in the NISMO race car not for sale to average tuners.

Here is the front pic of the engine. It says the engine specs including compression ratio on the front of the case.

The Nismo motor has had the vairiable cam phasers blanked off
but the HKS motor still has them fitted. The HKS flywheel which is available now can just be seen in the right of the photo

Probably $2050 for the twin-plate clutch & flywheel.

I completely disagree. Forced induction is the "other" way to make power. If some ricer civic pulls up with his 100 shot of nitrous, there is no way I am going to give him as much respect as the guy who in another civic put a B20VTEC motor (aka CRVTEC) in his civic. It takes much more work to create lots of N/A power but there are advantages that are not readily seen by horsepower numbers such as being able to stay in a lower gear longer due to increased redline, better throttle response, and its easier to sustain traction due a lack of a huge immediate shot of torque. These advantages become more and more obvious, the less one is concerned about the 1/4 mile and more concerned with the track.

Sorry, your current car would kill my car but I would simply rather have a naurally aspirated motor, even tho the power possibilities are limited.

If it's just about winning the race, then there is always someone who is faster. Therefore, your goal is a futile one that will never be accomplished. The experience of driving the car as well as the road that you take to modify the car should be part of the enjoyment, not just who wins the race.

ITR,

By your own statement then, if someone likes to modify their car with FI/or N2O, then they have enjoyed the road to get their car where they want it. The fact that they didn't do it NA doesn't make their enjoyment any less.

Thanks I am a genious...just so that you know I could have skipped a grade if I wanted to and I scored in the top 2-3 percent in the nation on my SAT's so basically kiss my a$$. I really appreciate you not reading my sentence below the sentence you quoted and your sarcastic comments really add a lot to this board.

I certainly agree that for some people Nitrous or Forced Induction is the way they wanted it and what they chose is what they enjoy. For others, however, it was simply a method to go faster b/c it was cheaper or easier or even in some cases, sounded cooler with no regard to how the mod works, or what it really does, or what it feels like from the drivers seat. I'm sure most 350Z owners would not do this but I have heard of people in the import scene who do.

All I'm trying to say is that on this board, naturally aspirated power seems to be second to forced induction, simply cause it doesnt have as high of a power potential. However, N/A has it's merits and with 3.5L of displacement, it's not like the Honda tuning world where there's just not enough displacement to make ungodly power numbers. I really think the VQ35 has the potential to be a great N/A motor.

Also, since the 350z isnt a car completely designed for a straightline (aka mustangs and cameros), then on a track, the merits of N/A power become even more obvious compared to say a drag strip.

2 things
the reason i want to go twin turbo is because the z32 was twin turbo so lets keep with the plan
besides nissans big on twin turbos
when a skyline crushed your ITR in a race are you gonna go "he didnt really win because he has turbos"
as far as nitrous, nitrous is cheap speed, and many people learn the hard way you dont want to cheap out, as far as performance in cars go you get what you payed for, so ill take the turbo kit, thanks.
as far as merits of NA power go, most victorious track cars are turbocharged, check out winning lemans cars, most are turbocharged, also many F1 are turbocharged, and last but nost least. I read a story on how the gt500 mugen nsx was having a hard time against turbocharged cars at high altitudes because it wasnt getting enough air
