I dont remember off hand.. Ill talk to my gear guy...
But, its something like this... I might have it reversed...
When the shims are too tight, you hear sound while decelerating...
When the shims are too loose, you hear sound while accelerating...
When the shims are just rite but hum while constant speed, its the bearings...
but i could have it mixed up...

sq40,
Yes, you can purchase a 3.9 ring and pinion fully assembled in with an OEM LSD or other LSD, such as the Nismo. However, it is more expensive to do it that way unless you plan on replacing the OEM LSD with an aftermarket one anyway. Many people buy the 3.9 and then use their OEM LSD. Install when using the stock LSD is typically $400 to $500.

Originally I was told my shop charges 3 hrs of labor at $75.00 an hour.. so that's $225 for gear install... after talking to them further they backed away.... now they don't want to do it at all... can anyone recomend somebody for this in NJ?

havent had problems yet..
but you will be looking at 3 weeks down time if you do standard ground shipping at minimum plus $300 around for shipping both ways...
We are working on getting more pumpkins so we can do this again...

For any of you guys in the NY NJ CT area I go to a shop called maximum tuning in Glen cove LI. They are breaking in to the z market and looking to do a group install of the gears if enough people are interested. They are quality driveline shop and have worked on a large variety of modded cars. from turbo'd maximas to crazy supras to my Z! there pricing is super fair.

BTW get them on the board to talk a little... that will help drum up some business.
