Bypass oil filtration
Does anyone have experience installing an aftermarket bypass oil filtration system in a passenger car, or better yet, in a Z? I'm curious to know your impressions. Amsoil, for example, sells a system that fits most cars.
Virtually all commercial trucks use this technology. It's probably one of the reasons that trucks can go millions of miles without an overhaul.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mika

I am thinking of installing the same set-up in my Z. Only thing is that I am installing an oil cooler and the install guide was confusing to me. It sounds like a great idea. Amsoil also sells a pre-lube system that bolts on the top of the bypass filters. The pre-lube system send oil to the engine as soon as you acivate the ignition. It is designed to prevent damage from the engine starting with no oil lubrication. Check it out. I am going with system in the near future.
There are many reasons why big rigs get so many miles from each engine. To say that bypass filtration is THE reason, is BS. There are other, good reasons why that is the case, including inherent engine design (low RPM diesels), routine, frequent maintenance, and mode of operation. BTW, the BMK-13 is an oil filter remote mounting kit, NOT a bypass oil filtration system. Keep in mind that bypass oil filtration will lower your car's operating oil pressure and volume available to the bearings, as well as lower the operating temperature, which may or may not be a good thing. The pre-lube system is a GREAT thing, and I have been looking for options and clean ways of doing it for a while.
