Yeah it sounds like you didn't torque down the pulley enough. If you didn't it will start to back out.

If you have oil coming out the seal, the wobble in the pully may have ruined the front seal on the timing cover.

I think the torque specs are 36 ft lbs + 60 degrees. About 90 ft lbs I believe. Should say on the instructions, mine did.

I've been looking at a underdrive pulley, so I'm very sorry to read about pulley issues. Has anyone suffered pulley fatigue when a high quality one was correctly torqued/belt-tensioned?

>the wobble in the pully may have ruined the front seal on the timing cover.

Can the seal be fixed easily or will it require a cam upgrade?

Dream724Z, if I am right the KJR is not an underdrive pulley, its same diameter as stock just lighter. Just an FYI.

Oh yes, KJR is standard size. Recently I've seen several happy "got-mine" posts from underdrive folks. So why not go all the way to underdrive and reduce the belt loads? UR claims their -20% size pulley allows the stock system to generate 600W-RMS.

I am very curious if any folks have suffered related wear problems due to a high quality AM pulley (standard or UD) after it was installed correctly?

zmespeed, please let us know if you determine the reason for the fault?

Well just in case I do go with a supercharger I didn't want get an underdrive pulley and then end up having to put a KJR on. Am I correct in this methodology? I think with a supercharger you don't want to go with underdrive pulley. Anyone.......Bueller.............Bueller?

i installed it my self. i do not have a torque rench but if any thing i over tightend it. how ever upon removel of the oem pulley i had to use wd40 to get the bolt off. then i checked the pulley daly to make sure it was on tight. after about two weeks of this i checked less offten. then i finaly stoped checking. many months later it sounds funny so i check it and make shure its tight. it was. so then i loosened the larger belt ... might have been on to tight.... to the loosest possible with out squeiling. then after that i took it for a run and it sounded good. next thing i know its doing it again. i check to see if its wobbleing will a long peace of soft metal lightly tuoching the outer rim of the pullye to see if it bounces back or not. it only slightly bounces. the only thing as of now that i can think of is that the aluminum on mine is some how a little softer. and the tention of the belt pulling one way while the engine is not running bent it slightly. but i have no real idea. so then i made the post.

probalby gona take it off put the old one back on then take it to the dealer to have them look at the seal. if they say somthing about how the bolt looks like its been removed and they will not fix it under warrenty i will take care of there issue. ill also check the pullye for any deformations and jive like that.

then post the results.... i still love the pulley.

Replace the $7 seal yourself. It's terribly easy once you have the pulley off.

Maybe a stupid question but I will ask anyway. When taking off the old stock pulley and installing this pulley did you make sure the little woodruff key was in place?? If you don't know what I am talking about check here:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/350z/120.html

Part# 00926-Z3301

If this small part fell out or is not installed properly it could cause the pulley to wobble and/or loosen.

ya i think i did... i lined up the groove on the crank with the notch on the pullley. but i thought that part was part of the shaft its self and could not fall out. is it alright to drive if it makes a little noise if your in front of the car. just a little wiggle. but im gunna pull it when i have time.

Were your torque specs correct at installation? I've posted on this at least 5 times.I think I was was of the very early purchasers of the KJR pulley. KJR's original instructions were incorrect-they forgot the +6 degrees- but were very quickly corrected on these boards. Correct torque specs are +/- 100 foot pounds of torque on the crank bolt or 36 ft/lb + 6 degrees. Installing this mod w/o a really accurate torque wrench is just asking for trouble.

yup i dont have one. i just put it on as tight as i could get it.

but one thing that makes me feel stupid is that if i turn off the AC then it sounds alot better...still a little crapy... but better... so not all of the sound is comming from the pulley.

im almost to the 48,000 mile inspection. and maybe some of the parts are just worn out. im at about 43,000
