MRC, what up!

Im curious about doing a full-on N/A setup with UTEC (PMed you about this before) but am thinking about it again here as Spring approaches...

Lets play the "what if I had these mods" game...

UTEC, intake, exhaust (greddy), headers, test pipes, plenum, pullys, dyno tune???

Any ideas on gains? or what the diff would be without the UTEC? I would realistically like to see 275+rwhp from this but am not sure about that???

Thanks!

I'd like to hear some thoughts on pearlcoupeg35's question as well.

I made gains up to 8 HP by tuning my A/F only with a SAFC II. Of course this was after bolt on NA mods were added. It would be hard for me to believe that COMPLETE tuning with the UTEC could not net more than 10+ HP with minor NA bolt ons.

I'll be getting my UTEC tuned soon, within the next week or 2. I'll post pre and post #'s after i do. I'm not stock so i hope to see an increase.
Considering that my base was 229hp. If advertised hp is attainable then i should gain about 26, but, we all know this will not ring true. So i am hoping for at least 15 to bring me to 260hp.

Fujitsubo Y-pipe, 5hp
Kinetix Plenum, 9hp
UR pulley , 8hp
Pop charger, 5hp
APS test pipes, 10hp

Right now i am kinda lean on the A/F. And i am sure the factory ECU has retarded my timing.

Well just to give you an example, we had a customer who had: Headers, high flow cats, plenum, exhaust and CAI, who gained 20 whp by tunning over his gains from his reflash.I do not remember his before and after #'s but there was a 20whp increase. The end WHP is irrelivant, it is the NET GAIN you need to keep in mind..Different cars, on different Dynos, yadda yadda yadda...Just focus on GAIN not peak HP..it would not be unrealistic with your mods to pick up about 15-20 whp..

I'm about to order the UTEC, hoping for 15-20 rwhp with the current mods.

I eventually hope to see 300 rwhp, and the UTEC is a must for all future mods.

The NA cars we've tune show about a 12-20whp improvement. It mostly depends on the condition of the base tune, and the level of mods. If you have installed a bunch of NA mods, without tuning, your base tune is going to be aweful, and more power can be had with retuning.

Through discussion, it seems to me that people who have a reflash are experiencing 12-15 hp gains after UTEC tuning, while those who are using the stock flash are getting slightly higher gains (15-20 hp).

Which goes to Sharif's point re: base tune.

Of course all of this depends on the level of na mods that you have.

Are you guys tuning the car yourselves? Trying to see what your timing curve looks like for the na guys with bolt ons.

That is what i have done with mine. Alot of mods with no tuning. I hope to see a significant increase.
I dyno'd at an event on a Dynotune and put down 245hp.
Then added a pop charger, test pipes and kinetix plenum and lost 5 HP.
I also ran a 13.39 at the track without those mods and haven't beat 13.45 since i installed them.

I'd like to try to tune mine with some help from a local Mustang guy but, i'm fooling myself. The closest i have is Atlanta.
A buddy of mine, Lee, Ninja Z will be going back to CP to get tuned. I thought about going with him but, it's such a long ways.

Really looking into buying a UTEC now.

Wanted to see what all gains you guys are still seeing on NA cars. And if anyone else has any more input.

Was reading that you can still gain 10-15hp over a reflash, that sounds good to me.

Anyone else seeing this?

Good luck...I am sure it will meet your expectations. We have several UTEC's in stock now, if anyone needs anything.

What are the "extras" (harnesses, adaptors, software, sensors, etc.) that you would need to by from TurboXS that do not come with the UTEC? Anyone know?

Hopefully I can answer a few of these questions.

For an NA car, the only required item is the UTEC main unit. For forced induction applications, you will need the MAP sensor as well. There is no software, per se; you simply use Hyper Terminal to connect your laptop to the UTEC.

NA gains are typically 12-20whp, depending on your mods, and the state of your baseline ECU tune.

If you have experience and understand the process of tuning an engine, then you could certainly self-tune it. Otherwise, I'd recommend having a reputable shop conduct the tuning. The UTEC gives you supreme control over the engine, but also gives you enough power to destory your motor if you are unfamiliar with tuning engines. Hope that helped.

That did help. Thanks.

Are there any good reads out there (net or hardcopy) that would help understand "the process of tuning an engine"?
