Default Question about the headlights

I am planning on replacing the bulbs in the headlights (the low beam ones) since I don't have the HID's. Does anyone know what type of bulbs they are? Are they 9005s? Are they 9006s? Thanks for your help...

PS - I'll post pics after all my mods are done...i have a few to do this weekend and still toying around with more!

Sorry, but I'm not really sure. The parts department at your Nissan Dealer is probably the best place to find out. Good luck and post pics of your mods when you're done!

The low beam bulb on a base model is a "H-7"
this is a relatively new style bulb

nissan only has the part number for the headlight...not the type of headlight. they will only be able to tell me what type of "nissan replacement" i can get. i called up my custom shop and they said that they believe the low beams are 9005s and the high beams are 9006...but i won't know for sure till i bring it to them this weekend. i'll post a reply with the exact answer after i take the car in.

What's the difference between HID and Xenon? Can you see the difference?

i had HID installed on my old car (96 civic ex)...about 2 weeks before i was run off the road and totaled it (hence the reason i have a new z)...cost...700 bucks. where are they? still in the civic....so, 700 down the drain for me. also...they were no high beams...when i turned the high beams on...the lights went off. civics only have one space for bulbs and HID only come in low beams (if you can tell...when you turn on your high beams, the light turns into a more halogen color). so, civics don't have enough room for another bulb. on the other hand...xenon bulbs...40 bucks a set. maybe not as bright...but much less than HID's. also, HID's are a pain to install...with the generators for each light and everything. my opinion...if you got the car without the HID's...just get xenon bulbs.

Low beam is H7 and high beam is a H1. It says it in your owners manual. I replaced them both the first week I had my car in Oct.

The Z with out the HID (high intensity discharge) witch is the base model, uses H7 for low beams and H1 for high beams.
Trust me, have done it already.
The Z uses both lights when you put on the high beams, meaning that BOTH lights come on (the H7 and the H1)
If you want the look of HID you can change the bulbs, although there will be no significant change in terms of clarity. The beam of light will be simply bluish, not yellowish. And if you increase the wattage maybe it will be brighter, but never like true HID.
You can change the bulbs yourself although its supposed to be a little hard to do. You can do it from under the car, BUT the manual suggests taking it to the dealer. I did it myself, I like doing things for myself, but that’s me.

Anyway, if you want to change the bulbs you can buy them from:

http://midnightmoose.com/xenon.htm
or
http://lightlens.net/bulbs.htm

BUT there is another option,

Like another member has stated, you can convert your yellowish bulbs to true HID, there are kits that use the same configuration (ex. H7, H4, 9004, etc.) that aren't that expensive.
I found one that made by HELLA, I haven’t tried them, and don't know if anybody has convert the base setup of the 350Z to HID.
You can buy them here:
http://www.misterjung.com/

If you want to check it out, the site is very useful in terms of explaining the different types of brightness that HID have.

Before my Z, I had a Mercedes Benz C230 and to do this type of modification I had to change in the ECU the lighting setting to "HID present". I don't know if in the Z is the same, but I don't think so.

If you would like the look of HID in your car, and not the actual clarity and excellent beam of light that HID gives, go for the Xenon bulbs.
But if you want all the attributes that HID has, plus the option in putting even better HID beams that the track and touring models offer, go for the kit and order the most powerful and whiter kits available.

I have the HElla(MR, JUng) in my car now---they are Great!!

he's got awesome prices--but its a little tricky to hook up but they are not too bad!

Sux cuz you have to take the whole damn bumper off Mainly!

H7 7000K kit is what I got,...it comes w/ everything and Detailed INstructions on how they work but not how they hook up!!
I called Audrey and he helped ALOT,..you have to hook the Negitive up to the body of the car instead of where its supposed to go or otherwise they will only stay on for a little bit and cut off on you--->Mine are runnin strong and look Better IMO then the STock 350Z HId's!

if you like PM me and I'll run ya throw the INstall

his site is down now but should still be able to order---he ships 2 day as well!
