Default aluminum drive shaft

my local shop recomends this modification, apparently it weighs 7 pounds less than the stock drive shaft. any opinions if its worth the 500 dollar price tag?

thanks

it may very well be 14lbs... but its really light... lighter then what I would think the OE one would be if aluminum...

we have schredded a few drive shafts... there isnt much to them....

Since it doesn'ts appear like anyone knows for sure, how about someone weigh the OEM one and then 'spracked' can get the one that his local shop recommends weighed, and we'll all know. Would this be considered the type of weight similar to unsprung weight off of an axle, or like a crank pulley, or something in between?

i don't think an aluminum driveshaft will be as strong as the stock carbon fiber with steer reinforcement driveshaft

the stock one is stronger however I plan to stay NA so its kind of irrelevant. just trying to shave as much weight off as possible

why replace the strong one with a weak one to save 7 lbs. You can save 7 lbs by taking off your shoes and jewelry before getting in the car.

on top of that, since its a driveshaft it doesnt have much radius so the unsprung weight isnt that unsprung.
you'd get more of a difference by shedding 10 lbs off the outside of a flywheel than 30 lbs off the inside of a flywheel for example. Since the driveshaft is only a few inches wide in the first place, loosing 7 lbs wouldnt do much.
