03/04 heads on 05/06 Block

I was able to locate an 05/06 VQ block for a future build but, I'm unsure the heads off my 04 will bolt on to the 05/06 block. Has any one done this?

well, the VQ came from a 05 G35 with revup. The only difference noted on text (searces on here and on G35D) is the heads as far as Revup goes. But I'm not sure if there are additional oil provisions or coolant as such.

head gaskets are very similar except for a couple of small points...
ok... here is the thing...
the valve angle is slightly different on the rev-up heads...
the rev-up heads have mounting points etc for the exhaust timing... using a different front cover as well etc...
the pistons are different as well on the rev-up to go along with the different valve angles..

If you change the pistons to the non-rev up, con rods etc etc and convert the 05/06 block to the 03/04
basicly the different between Non-REV UP and REV-UP short blocks is the pistons / rods...
But the PISTONS have a different valve releif so the Pistons have a different shape...
SO, the pistons from one block will not match up to the heads from a different block...
but im just saying with the frotn cover, if the heads bolt up, it doesnt mean that everything else will work as well...

can you answer this for me?
I have an 05 revup engine in my 5 g35....
I want to start to collecting parts for an engine build. Do I need to find a used "revup" block or is the block the same as the standard engine? I understand that the rods/pistons are different, but is the crank the same, coolant passages to the heads, etc?
where can I find all the differences between these engines? btw, thanks for pointing out that the heada re different castings. I just assumed they were the same other than the variable exaust cam timing.

I would get the same motor that is in your car... It will make things easier when it comes to hooking up all the sensors and everything...
The Rev-UP motors are going to be easier to get now that they are in both 350z and G35

Thanks Jason and everyone else, I may take the gamble and pick up the block. It's a bare block - no heads, pistons, rods and crank. I'll just have to locate a crank, and the rest will be all aftermarket upgrades. If it doesnt work out, I'll just sell it to someone who's planning on going FI and dont want to spend so much for engine building.

ok... if it is a BARE block then nothing to worry about...
As long as you are using low compression pistons etc.. not the OE or High Compression pistons...
The BARE BLOCKS are the SAME for all years... Its the Pistons that make the difference when bolting up the heads...
