I can't belive there's no one in this forum who programs in Assembly. There has to be someone.

Does anyone have the dump from the ECU? I'm sure if we have the contents it woudn't take too long for someone to tear it apart...

I program only in assembler, but it's not that simple. I didn't read the whole tread, just skimmed. The dump only takes a minute, figuring out what the dumped program is doing takes some time. Does any one know what type of CPU is used? Then you have to know the address or port of each input signal, using the logic of the program to try and deduce that... O2, throttle position, etc. And then of course just doing the reverse engineering is illegal, but I don't really agree with that. I haven't done this sort of thing since the 80's and things have changed a little, but they have prolly figer'd out lots but have to go over and over to try to make sure they are interpreting things right. But I WANT ONE... just let us load new maps and maybe disable or change a few things like rev, speed... etc. Sorry for babblin, just had to get on this thread.

Agreed, its not super simple, but it can be done.

As to legality... lets not go down the road of the DMCA/Reverse Engineering/etc. We don't have enough room on this board.

Yeah! A loadable/programable ECU would be VERY cool.

They have MY us-spec ECU, which they will compare with JDM, see if the JDM program will work on mine, then i get mine back, and dyno tune it with their laptop attached to my car running with their interface..

as for loadable programs. its a matter of plug-in-play with their interface unit and loading A/F maps already done on the computer.. sounds crazy but doable..

as for when the ECU resets, it will NOT erase the program that will be FLASH'd on.. sweet! so in all likelyhood, Turbo/NOS applications COULD be programmed...

DWNSHIFT: who did you sent it to? or is that trade secret

in all reality, ECU would probably be the easiest mod to do. no hard elbow greasing! hehe.

This sounds great because even with the headers the damn thing still goes rich in the higher rpm range

Great news. I'm sure everyone else is as eager to hear the results.

I may have missed the info earlier in the thread, but what are we comparing? Will the dyno comparison be the diff between a stock Z and then a chip only Z, or have other mods gone in.

Can't wait!

OK, I'll ask the n00b question......

What specifically, does the ECU upgrade do to give our car gains?
I'm kinda confused on the whole binary/hexablah blah/computer talk stuff.... I understand FI, Free Flowing, Smaller pullies, etc and how they can improve performance, but not how the ECU does it...... I'm is tecknkly chalenjed......

The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) controls the fuel injection system, ignition timing and the fuel pump. Based on information from the input sensors (engine coolant temperature, barometric pressure, air flow, etc.), the ECU determines optimum settings for the output actuators (injection, idle speed, ignition timing, etc.). By adusting these parameters (or "maps") you can often increase horsepower.
