AT is riding in a car...

MT is DRIVING the car....

Both have good and bad qualities

Default This topic is wore like a *****

on the G forums and it still...

An auto for the the:
G Sedan: Yes.
Coupe: Ok I guess, it does have back seats. Maybe if you like having a sports car but dont want have to work too hard.
Z: Its almost an insult to the Z heritage, but people want a choice.

If the auto performed better, I may consider it for a second, but its still just lets someone who cant drive, drive a little better than a novice stick driver.

I have been driving manuals for the past 25 years. Fifteen years in Europe and the last 10 years here in Vegas.

I love manuals, but driving one in Vegas as my daily driver during the middle of summer in traffic can be a pain. I opt'd for the 5AT and I have to admitt I enjoy it.

However, if wasn't for the harsh conditions, I would definetly have gotten the manual. It's just more fun to drive in my opinion.

Default To each his own

IMO the 6MT was not nearly as fun to drive. This is my first auto sports car. My last sports car of 9 years was a 94 600+ HP single turbo supra. I like the auto shift option. If I want to shift manually I can move it over and shift manually. If I am in traffic I can relax. Besides in the 1/4 I think the auto is faster. Sure if you go around the circle track the 6 MT is the way to go but I have never done that and I don't plan on ever doing it.

Besides I drove both. I never antisipated going auto but IMO the $1200 plus option was well worth it. Obviously those with autos will say autos are better and those with 6MT's will say they are better. There are roughly 9 6MT's for every 1 5AT. I am surprised the poll shows the 6 MT are preferred 3 to 1. It looks like there might be a lot of unhappy 6 MT's.

Thumbs up

I agree, I love my Auto with Manual Mode. Manual Trans are way over rated in todays vehicles! Especially in the Z.

Default Manual vs Automatic

At the risk of offending everyone in the automatic camp I find it hard to understand why Nissan would even offer an automatic (no matter the whizbang electronics) on a car like this. Of course the answer is: they sell more cars. And who do they sell them to: People who want sexy looking cars that go quick in a straight line who really don't care much or know much about cars. The last time I was at Bondurant I was astounded at the number of young males who raised their hand when the instructor asked: "Is there anyone here who can't drive a stick?"

I have NEVER owned an automatic although there have been times when I was forced to endure the experience. I've driven crappy little automatics in rental cars and fancy electronic ones in BMW, Mercedes etc. NOTHING kills the driving experinece like an automatic.

I drive 30k miles a year. Highway, rush hour (lots of rush hour) bumper to bumper slogging. I have NEVER thought even once an automatic might be nice.

Don't get me wrong, automatics definately have their place in this world. I think evey mini van needs one.

I would like to conduct my own poll. Of those who prefer an automatic how many routinely drive on the highway with one hand flopped across the top of the steering wheel?

Drive what you want.

I drive stick, that's my choice. Voicing your opinion is one thing.

Thrashing someone elses opinion is another.

I drive stick it's my choice and it's fun but if someone want's automatic then that's their choice.

It should be a crime to think your post count means anything more than how many posts you have but alas you have just proven that post count = about dick cause it SHOULD be a crime to offer an ATX in a car as nice as a 350... it only makes it slower; in a stright line, traffic, passing, twisties, road course....

ATX on a daily driver = lazy and booring

I like ot drive my car, not ride....

wow someone here is being a dick......auto is just as fast..oh god we lost an extra 20hp ..wow like that cant be made up...half u guys that own 6mt can't even drive ur cars so your opinions dont count. i've raced 2 6mt Zs and beat them both. I've raced an m3 through the twisties and i beat it. Im not saying my car is faster because its not but the difference is so negligable that it doesnt matter. You 6MT tranny guys are being dicks thats all i have to say, and i thought we were all on the same side. Have fun misshifting into third.
