Quick question... (CAMS)
Hey guys what's goin' on? First off let me just say that I am a new owner of a '06 Z and it's truly worth every penny that I paid for it. I have been doing some research on the NA mods availible for this car and one thing I came across was cams... I noticed that all the cams that I saw were NOT compatible with the 300hp "REV-UP" engine. Are their any NA cams built for the REV-UP engine? Are their any that may be produced in the future? Also, what kind of gains could I expect from this mod? I tried searching for some answers but I couldn't find anything worth while...thanks
nismo doesnt have any? i saw their cams on the net and they seem nice. the rev up motor is new for 06 (other than 05 ann/track models) so grinding cams for that motor may take some time. im sure you will find more info on these cams on the net. your best bet is to check with nismo.
The Rev-up motors have different cams than the original 287HP engines. Most of the ones for sale up to the point were developed for the 287HP engines. Eventually, cams for the revups will become available when there is enough demand.

When i held up a set of Tomei 268 to my revup heads the journal spacing was off so they wouldnt work period, but that was just for the exhaust side, i cant image it being any different for the intake side.

I talked to Jim Wolf about this a couple of weeks ago. He told me that the problem with the Rev-up motor is that the exhaust cam has variable timing. He also mentioned that the factory cams are so close to their S2 cams that I wouldn't see much gain anyways.
I also found out why so many of the turbo companies are having problems with the Rev-up motors. He said that Nissan uses the variable cam timing to function as an EGR valve. The ECU dials back the exhaust cam to create extra overlap at low rpm to act as an EGR. This way Nissan didn't have to add an actual EGR valve to the motor. This low rpm overlap wreaks havoc with forced induction. Jim told me that he would absolutely recommend not running aftermarket cams on the Rev-up motor if FI is in the future. This is due to the reason stated above. Aftermarket cams with increased duration would make the problem even worse.

^Is that just the exhaust cams though or overall? I have read a couple of times on here people saying the Nismo cams on the Intake said have done pretty well in terms of getting power.
