Help! What is 3 angle valve job?
hey, can someone explain to me what 3 angle valve job is? Someone gave me a suggestion the other night to do a 3 angle valve job. I forgot wat he said but he said it;ll help the air flow or something move faster which gives out for power. I sound like a noob! bwahaha
i tried to search on the forums and i didnt get anything. Anobody do this to their Z?

a three angle valve job is when you are installing the valves back in the head, they cut angles into them so they seat better when they are shut. this is done with grinding stones when the valves are out of the heads. there is a normal valve job, a three angle valve job and a 5 angle valve job. a three angle lets air flow better over them and in the five angle lets it flow even better. highly recommended if you get your heads done...

thank you!... Im goin get this done very soon!
by the way, wouldnt my stock ecu have a hard time addapting to the 3 angle valve job? Is the car goin to run smooth? I have my utec installed but its not tunned yet. Thanks for ur help!
And why are you getting this done, do you already have the engine apart for some other reason. It would be foolish to do this if for no other reason than that. Maybe if your going FI and are building up the lower unit but that would be the only reason to. The cost in labor alone will make you ****!

Well the reason is that the leader of my team actually wants to do the work on my car and i wanted to see what u guys thought. By the way, he so much connection and sponsors that i only have to pay $140.

Your car already has a 3 angle valve job.
5 angle is better, full radius is best....though not sure if you can do a full radius on these heads (not all have enough room)
You are going to pay alot more than $140 to have this done - I'd say around 10x that when it's all said and done. You are looking at a complete disassembly of the top half of the motor, complete disassembly of the heads, the porting, then complete reassembly. It is a LONG job. I would not bother with any valve work, or any porting unless you are going all out with cams, headers, and a programmable ecu at a minimum

Most performance based engines already have at least a 3 angle valve seat, as Z1 Performance said.
I have a set of heads off my engine that have a 3 angle valve seat, and I can take a picture. Not sure how well it would show up, tho.

Nissan oem engines have used 3 angle cuts and sometimes 5 angle for about 20 years. Always be careful of someone trying to sell you their expertise....especially when they want to grind away by the hour.
Study your FSM for details...................important to maximizing heat transfer [when seated] to extend life of valves.

You can always improve upon what Nissan did, by having a engine/machine shop that knows what they are doing, match the valve grind on each valve to each valve seat, definately some hp to gain there. As far as cost go, I had my heads balanced and blueprinted at a well known local engine/machine shop that builds a lot of race motors around here, total cost for machine work and assembly of the heads was about $1500 (I provided all the parts).
We can save you a lot of headache as well as provide you with complete ready to install heads....we don't charge by the hour either
