Anyone elses brakes squeaking??
My Touring model has about 3800 miles on it and i was driving it to school today and the brakes started squeaking louder than the little squeaks im used to. I dont like my brakes squeaking at all, but now its loud and almost embarrassing! Anyone else have this problem and know if there is a cure?
10K+ miles and yes I have this problem. Started around 7K. Dealership is replacing rear pads to start the diagnosis process. Mine squeal and grind like a '78 Chevette. I know what you are talking about when you say it's embarrassing. This is no longer a little squeak when backing out in the morning.
3700miles and no problems, if it starts up, I think thats the car screaming for a big brake kit.
but hell some brakes squeek, might have to do with the type of driving the Z creates. you get a new set of pads for free it seems, so not all bad.
otherwise take it as an excuse, upgrade your pads, decrease your braking distance, reduce dust, and hopefully stop the squeeking.
be sure to break in new pads properly... (accelerate to 35mph drive for 10 seconds, brake under moderate CONSTANT pressure(dont let off at the end) till stopped, accelerate again, repeat 10 -20 times. this helps to set the pads on the rotors and prevents glazing, tho if the rotors are already glazed, they need to be turned down.

My brakes squeak too, but at least I know why.
I have 10,700 miles and after 2 track days and 3 AutoX's I am down to 10-15% on the rear pads.
Once the brakes get heated up they seem Ok, but when I start out, they make some annoying sounds (gonna be getting some new pads soon).
-D'oh!

those of you with really low miles must have messed something up... to get squeeks that rapidly requires something to be wrong, probably hard braking on a brand new set of pads and rotors.
the break in of the car included the brake system, not just engine, it said not to do any hard stops for a good while.

Take your brake pads out and put anti squeal compound on the shims. Problem solved. It should take you 1 hour all around. Mine squeal, but I put very aggressive track pads on, they are supposed to squeal...
you only had to do one hard stop and thats it. its also suggested that on a new car if you have a manual, you remove your foot from the brake when at a stop. if not on an incline of course. that removes te heat from the rotors, that can cause part of the rotor to cool, and not the part under the pad, causing warped rotors.
So who makes a really good set of pads that dont squeak or dust that bad?
Right now i have mercury silver GT-C's that look like gunmetal after about a week because of brake dust all over them!

stoptech's squeak too!
I've already changed the pads, set them like Ares has mentioned but it does not matter. Both sets of pads squeaked after about 500 miles!
Mostly when I am going slow and slightly braking. Hard braking, no squeak at all.

You really don't have to put up with this squeaking on your stock brakes. In most cases, I've found the following bedding process will eliminate or reduce noise from your brakes. Give it a try and see if it works for you:
1. From 60mph, do a series of gentle slowdowns to 40mph and then speed back up again and repeat. Do it about 5 times. The goal is to slowly bring your brakes up to operating temperature and not thermally shock them with what we are about to do next.
2. Again, bring the car up to 60 mph and then stand on the brakes HARD, bringing the car to a near stop, perhaps 10mph and then immediatly acellerating as hard as you can up to 60mph again. It's OK to engage ABS, although I prefer to brake just shy of this point.
3. Repeat step 2 as soon as the car gets back up to 60mph. You don't want to allow the car's brakes time to cool down.
4. After you've done about 8 of these hard slow-downs, bring the car back up to speed and cruise around without using the brakes at all, if possible. Smoke and a bad smell are to be expected and are normal. Also, your brakes may start to feel like they are going away. Again, this is normal. Whatever you do, DO NOT bring the car to a full stop. If you must stop, avoid putting your foot on the brake pedal. Otherwise you will transfer pad material onto the surface of your red hot rotor and you may then have vibration problems (what most people mistakenly think is warped rotors.)
After you've allowed the brakes to cool down for at least 10 minutes, you can drive normally or you can park the car and leave it. The next time you drive, you'll probably find that the brakes feel better (more grip) and they don't squeal any more.
Give it a shot and let us know if it solves the problem for you. But be careful not to do it in traffic! Other drivers will think you have lost your mind.
