Nissan authorized a short block, from doing my research and talking to people seems like a short block would be fine because the problem seems to be from oil getting past the rings. Should I be fine with this, or should I fight for a long block?

Could further damage occur in the heads because of running low on oil, or running with black (burnt) oil?

In the other oil consumption thread a member has had his short block swapped, and it did not fix the problem. The service writer is trying to convince me that nissan uses soft rings and that is the reason why I am having consumption problems with mobile 1. He says the oil is so slick it gets by. I laughed because I think that the car should be smoking unless the cats is some how stopping it. They start the consumption test on my car next week. I do not care what they say the engine should not be burning no more than a half court between oil changes if that.

No way I would settle for a short block. You want those hacks splitting your motor in half? Also how do you know the oil isnt leaking down the valve guides?

My point exactly, I do not want them cracking my engine open, just have the same problem. People have been trying to pin point the issue but no one has been able to. If we knew the head ache would be over.

Well I called Nissan North America to fight for a long block, and did not receive a call back until a week later; which was too late because I told the dealership just order the parts I want this headache to go away. So today I dropped the car off today for the new short block. I washed the car before I dropped her off to display to them I take care of my car, and wish them to do the same. I hope this will solve the problem, and I will not get any extra surprises. I'll keep everybody posted on how it goes.

Good luck dude, Iam in the process of the consumption test. I have to go back in bout 900 miles to see what the deal is. Iam wondering if they wind up telling me that they have to replace the motor if I could use the lemon law, I dont trust the techs at the dealers doing a whole engine swap!

Check your state regs on the lemon law. Usually it's only a number of visits to qualify.
In WA it was 4 visits for repair or diagnosis.

Nissan called me today and said the top of the engine was "starved" of oil, so a long block in now on order!

It's no big deal. If they do it wrong, just keep having them install new motors. Eventually they will have to get it right.

Went down to the dealership today to drop off my stock plenum. I also checked out the engine, the cams were visibly scored. Kinda interesting.

I have the same problem as you do!

A representative told me they realize the issue of oil consumption and was fixed by replacing somthing. (don't remember what that is)

Now, I had my car over to the dealer for oil consumption test and was told to get back to them after 1000 miles.

Even with full oil now, is it normal to have about only 15psi while its idle when it's warm? It's about 60psi when it's 2000rpm. IS THIS NORMAL???

--What's short block and long block?
--How are they going to fix the problem for you?
--What's the status of your oil consumption?
--and which dealer do you go to?

Thanks a MILL for all the question in advance =)
