Default ( at ) trans install

How hard is it to change the AT trans in our cars? A couple of my buddies that are mechanics think they can do it in my garage on jack-stands. Then lift the tranny up with a floor- jack. Doable?

I guess it is possible if you've got people knowing exactly what to do, but it will take double the time to drop it out than if you had a lift. Plus, no warranty at all if it doesn't work. I'd just take it to a shop.

Nuts and Bolts and common sense. MAIN thing: Be very careful when u slide ur converter on to the tranny making sure u dont mess up the front seal and making sure that the converter shaft locks into the pump drive. It should almost be rubbing the bellhousing. Then when its bolted up, slide the conv. forward to the flywheel, line up the bolts/studs and tighten them down in sequence with a drop of Loc-Tite

If ur Hot--hour-hour and a half---If ur not ---week-- week and a half. J/K

Too many variables, Iv put in LOTS of trannys, Have yet to do an Auto on a Z, But Trannys are Trannys. Id say on the Z, couple guys that know a little and take the time to chk and double chk every thing------3-4 hours. I can install a 6 sp. and have it sitting on the ground in an hour and a half, working alone.

It shouldnt be an all night job but if it turns out to be ---so what. No sense in makin it a race.

Wouldn't it be better / safer to rent a tranny jack instead of precariously jacking the tranny with a floor jack?
