Default engine speed

Okay, here's a real greenhorn question:

I have yet to drive the Z. The local dealer called yesterday to say that one was expected in and could be test driven. In the course of the conversation, he mentioned that the car comes equipped with an adjustable rev limiter.

I have seen nothing about this in any literature or on the internet. The dealer was saying that the Z revs and pulls hard up to nearly 8K. If this were true, it seems to me that the car would be would be good for at least 300 whp stock... and it would certainly run mid 13's.

Is this guy pulling my leg or what? I'm sure he'll be full of break in period concerns when I want to wind it out on the test drive.

Thanks guys.

I'd say he's pulling your leg. About the only thing thats adjustable concerning the rpm is the shift light indicator that is adjustable to alert you when reaching a set rpm. Perhaps this is what he was taking about. As for the Z pulling hard to 8k rpm, no way, the fuel cutoff is at redline at 6600 rpm. Dealers are known for pulling "facts" out of their @$$.

And be sure to get a nice discount for the fact that they are taking cars to TWICE their recomended RPM limit during the break in period, which is 4000 RPM, and 1400 RPM above redline.

fuel cutoff is at 6600 RPM non negotiable.

the shift light indicator can be set from 2000 I think all the way up to 8000, yes yes, why 8000 redline is 6600, I dont know. planning ahead I guess, and if you set it at 8000, you wont have to ever see it. the light blinks 500RPMs from your set limit, so at 6600 it will blink at 6100, so you need to go to 7100 to never see the light.

I WANT those 1400RPM!!!!!

I'm calling NNA now!!!!!

Is it possible that they saved those 1400RPM for reverse?

By the way, my volume goes up to 11. Most only go to 10 - this one is better - it goes to 11

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I thought. It seemed mighty unlikely that no one would have stumbled onto that minor detail.

Getting the **** to go to 11... or at least 8, will have to be relegated to the mod list.
