150mph limiter
I was on my way to Vegas this weekend and I wanted to try to achieve the top speed on the Z. I was about 10 miles from Primm Nevada and there was no traffic on I-15 when I made my own “Run.” Getting up to about about144mh was pretty easy, but every mile increment after that took about 2 to 3 seconds until it topped off at 150mph. The car was incredibly stable, but I could feel the wind resistance. Here is my list of problems/questions:
A. I thought the limiter did not kick in until 155mph?
B. I was expecting the engine to cut off at top speed, but it just kept on going until 150mph.
C. I have an AT tranny with 5 gears, so does not having a 6th gear affect the top speed on this car.
D. Does the limiter at high speeds cut off the engine or only allow it to go up to a certain speed?
E. Anyone else hit the limiter?
P.S. Anyone have a Silver Z parked on the second floor of the Luxor this weekend?

It sounds to me like you may have hit an aerodynamic limit or power limit on your run (either due to wind, a slight hill, etc.)
The car is limited to 155 or 156, and as long as you are still accelerating up to that point it would feel like a little jerk and then the car would maintain that speed. I've never actually hit the top speed, so I'm guessing here.
Smoothly coming up on the top speed makes it sound like the car simply ran out of power.
Either way, that is crazy fast!
Ludicrous Speed!!
-D'oh!

Never done it but read this link

Also, there was a pic taken by a member here (sorry can't remember who) of the digital gauge at 156.

I Remember reading in a car magazine when they tested a bunch of cars for top speeds. SOme of them had limiters, some didn't. I think one of them was A toyota supra. THey said how the car slammed into the limiter so hard that they almost lost control. Granted, those cars are a lot faster, but be careful if you get any mods and try again!!! It will cut the engine off completely until you fall back below the limited speed. The wind resistance up that high is crazy and will slow you down very fast...
Well I was on a slight downhill and there was a little wind. I also forgot to consider that I had a friend in the car that weighs 190 lbs and a couple of travels bags in the trunk. However, I was down to about 1/4 tank and I could really feel the wind resistance!
If you hit rev limiter, even in top gear, you'd feel it for sure. When the fuel cuts, it cuts for a few seconds, you'd probably drop below 150mph before fuel was fed back in. Cars bounce off the limiter, they don't ride it, so if you think you've hit the limiter and are maintaining a constant speed it's not the speed limiter. You are either accelerating or decelerating like a yoyo if your playing with the limiter.
