Transmission issue? need some insight!
Hey guys...i got a KILLER deal on a 2003 350z touring...with 18k miles....anyways...im coming from a wrx.....and i noticed that when i shift gears in my 350z...the clutch is really long (high) or however u call it....but when i get to the top of the clutch when its engaging...i feel some vibration in my clutch pedal...almost like a grinding feeling...but not...it shifts gears perfectly its just a little rough feeling in my foot.....is this the normal notchy gears and rough tranny of the 350?

From my experience with 2 Z's ....... I have never had my clutch pedal vibrate. Yeah the gears a bit notchy but you get used to it after a while.
I think most people who own one will tell you 1st and 2nd gear can be a little
notchy but the rest of the gears seem to be pretty ok. Doesnt hurt to take it back to the dealer and speak with the service manager and have him or one of the guys do a road test.

i really dont know how to explain it...when u say notchy....do u mean notchy at the shifter or at the clutch pedal....im talking about at the clutch is pressed down and raised back up...the top feels rough...feels almost like grinding.....i guess my question is how do u know if ur tranny is grinding? I dont know what to look for as i bought the car this way....the shifting just doesnt seem smooth.

you might try adjusting the clutch pedal to engage a little closer to the floor. if you do a search, there's a great DIY thread with pics that shows how to do it

I had issues with grinding on rare occasions and I changed my oil to Royal P Max gear 75w-90 and Installed a new flywheel and clutch. After that the issues went away.
Change the Tranny oil as it may solve it.. $40.00 to do that for RP oil or something simular.
Ahh I also have a Rogue short shifter.
Point is I dont think its the tranny itself just maybe the oil or the other componets. I read a while back something about overextending the clutch caused issues and since you got it used you will never know what was done to it. Worst case maybe you can get a Rev 9 Tranny Upgrade

by saying notchy I mean at the shifter, when you are trying to place it into the gear. Letting go of the clutch should not cause any vibrations unless your not shifting correctly. My clutch goes goes down smooth and comes up clean without any kind of chatter at shiffting. Do yourself a favor dude and just go to the dealer when you have a chance and have them look at it, the car is still under warranty.
