People with Aftermarket LSDs:
can you breakdown the oil products you are using.
I just got a Nismo LSD and am looking for recommendations to keep noise down and get the best action.
I was recommended not to use the Amsoil diff fluid. I have heard good things about Motul (but oh so expensivo!) and the redline friction modifier used in conjuction with gear oil.
be sure to include the product's name or specification (ex. Motul GL5 90w-xxx)
thanks! thought this would be good for others wondering as well...

you're best off limiting your question to people using the NISMO diff honestly. I've yet to use a fluid in it that quieted it down significantly, but have not yet tried Motul. Every other fluid I've ever used (Castrol, Redline, etc.) has produced comparable results to the NISMO fluid

I use redline oil, GL-5 75W-90 "for limited slip differentials," and it gets quiet and smooth again after about 30 miles of driving. Then it gets loud and poppy again after 1500 miles. I've changed it twice now, both times using redline, same results.
I think I'll try adjusting it to 70 or 50 lb-ft if it is set higher than that (100 lb-ft) from Tenessee. Sport Compact Car did a pretty good write-up on the 04 Nismo Z's (S and R-tune), which include a discussion on the differential.

did you say that Nismo makes a proprietary oil? guessing I can pick that up from the dealership if that is the case.
And I would think that as long as they are the same type of action, I couldn't imagine a big difference... do you know the reasoning behind this?

yes NISMO makes their own - it comes with the diff
the diff action might be the same but that does not really have alot to do with the noise of the units. The NISMO is, hands down, the noisiest of all the diffs for the Z
