Thumbs down stillen engine damper came apart

yes thats right...came apart at the top. don't ask me how but it was in two pieces when i finally figured out what the loud noise was while driving.

when i checked under the hood i discovered the damper was in two pieces. don't know what their going to do about it since i bought this a while ago but i got a call in with stillen right now.

anyone else had this problem?

maybe the locking nuts that keep the lenth from adjusting were not tightend properly?

i installed as is...and i don't believe i should have to retighten the nuts that hold it together. maybe they should have a better locking mechanism so that it does not come apart.

the damper seperated into to pieces...at the top where it is threaded in. i am pretty sure they just came loose and it fell apart.

if i get the unit replaced, i will safety wire the locking nuts so i don't have to worry about it.

you guys that have them may want to check these bolts so this does not happen to you.

believe me, there was a loud bang when she went. i couldn't figure it out and was worried i didn't find anything at first. but when i did find it i was relieved and dissappointed at the same time.

however, i am sending the unit for stillen for warranty review

I've caught mine becoming uscrewed a couple of times. I just used some locktight and haven't had a problem since.

appreciate everyone's input here and i do think locktight is a good solution for preventing this from happening. since i never needed to adjust the length, i never thought to check the nuts for tightness during or after the installation.

considering all the vibration and stress on this part it is easy to understand how this could happen. it will be interesting to see if stillen replaces the unit since i never touched the nuts to adjust the length. if they don't replace the unit, i would be happy if they could just replace the internals since the rest of the unit is in tact.

anyways, some good suggestions here for those who have the damper. either check the adjusting nuts periodically, or use some locktight to keep them from coming loose. once the unit is adjusted for length there should be no reason to tighten or loosen those nuts. i may also use some safety wire for mine when i get it.

i must also say that i do miss having the damper in there since it really makes a difference. there is more engine noise and vibration than when i had the unit installed.
