I took my car in yesterday for the first checkup of my first OC test. I just got a call from the dealership saying they're going to replace my longblock and they're setting me up with a rental car today. So far, no headaches (I'm sure due to the TSB).

My V2 has Castrol GTX 5W30 installed from the dealer. I have finished breakin on my V2 (followed Nissan recommendations 1200 miles under 4K).
Once I know anything definitive, I'll let you know Zeeforce.

Could it be the region of the USA and weather conditions that has dealers choosing one weight over another as their normal oil weight?
Way back before the first V2 came out my dealer at my recommendation switched out my oil from 5w-30 to 10w-30 to see if it made a difference in the OC on the V1…It did not.
My V2 is running Castrol GTX 5w-30 which is the dealers normal oil for my region - Northern California. Temps run on the average between 35 degrees and say about average summer is 90 degrees. Is that about right 06CPV35?

V2 oil is going out for an Used Oil Analysis
Hey guys, I have been waiting and waiting for my oil to hit 3500 mi, so I can send it out for a Used Oil Analysis. Tomorrow is the day; I catch a sample and send it out to Dyson Labs. They will see if there are any engine mechanical failures. This test is very scrutinizing in all aspects of the engine internals. My guess is it will be too soon, not enough miles on the engine (4216 mi), although Terry Dyson of Dyson Labs will be able to see if the rings have settled yet, again my guess is they have a long way to go before settling.
I am excited as I have not heard of anyone sending out their V2 oil for analysis. There is great thread here on Used Oil Analysis, that I recommend everyone take a peek. It’s a real eye opener. If you care about your Z or G, then this thread should be on your must read list. Plan on two to three days of nothing but absorbing the information.

my test.. 250miles.. 4mm down. driving slow in my daily commute. 60 miles roundtrip.
was decent till now... and 37500 start this bs.

These V2 results are interesting...some success while others eh...or all out fails.
Sounds like same stories with the V1's and original oem's
Hope when I roll the dice, it'll be a winner. Much compassion for the ones who have gone through more than one replacement.

I am the original owner of a new 2004 Touring 350Z, 6 SPD -MT that I purchased off of the new car lot. Right from the get-go I noticed an oil consumption problem so I took it to the Nissan dealer where I purchased it and we began the oil consumption test. After 3 tests they finally admitted that there may be a problem (they denied that they have ever heard of a Nissan engine with oil consumption problems) so they said that they contacted Nissan North America and rather then doing a leak down test they were told to replace the valve covers, gasket and PCV valve. The oil consumption remains at 1 Quart Oil every 1000 miles. Well, here is Nissan North America's, Inc. Official Answer. DOWN-SHIFTING! NISSAN'S TECH LINE Stated "Oil loss due to customer downshifting to slow vehicle down- compression built up during this is pushing oil past rings which is then being burnt off". They don't know me nor do they know my driving habits. I have no idea how NNA came up with this rediculious answer. So where is the problem? Did Nissan of North America ever state what the source of the problem is? Does the TSB cover those of us with the original problems in their 2004 Z's?
Please let me know what you think.

It's not the stand-alone cause of OC and in a healthy engine, wouldn't be factor.
So Nissan says you're denied b/c of that and essentially it's due to your driving habits
You may have to go BBB on this one.
TSB does not cover your year of Z, but 1qt/1000mi or worse is covered under Nissan's normal warranty replacement standard without TSB.

When I met with the tech specialist, they told me something similar. The fact that I was slowing down caused the problem and that it was driving habit. I actually laughed out loud at him and told him that I would just never slow down. These are the types of answers you tend to get when they have honestly no clue what the problem really is
[EDIT] Just realized you said 2004. You are probably outside the time range to allow you to file a lemon law complaint.

I too have the '04 Touring model w/6 spd. I bought mine used last June and took it to the dealer for the 60K checkup and they changed the oil, etc. I picked it up (not knowing there was a problem) and drove it for about 3 months and noticed the oil pressure dropping off a lot more than ususal. Checked the oil and there was nothing on the dipstick! I had to add 3 quarts to get it back to full (I had only driven the car 1500 miles in that 3 months). Took it back to Nissan and they ran the OC test and she was gulping down a quart every 500 or 600 miles (and it was not visibly smoking if you believe that).
If it is an issue >> they SHOULD contact NNA for you >> In my case they negotiated the engine swap (at least that's what happened in my case). I had no problem getting a replacement engine this way. I never talked to anyone but the service writer at my dealership. We had maybe 3 converstations by the time I received the new engine (and by the way it is almost 3,000 miles with zero consumption and it runs very strong).
I did not have to contact the BBB or a lawyer. The dealership gets paid by NNA to do this work so they will go to bat for you (if you are nice to the service people). I had 58,500 miles on my 2004 Z when all this went down (and I was its 3rd owner). Maybe I was just lucky? What I noticed was my dealer wanted the est $10,000 in revenue for doing the engine swap and they worked real hard to get it. I mean ... think about it: 3rd owner, used car, and 2,000 miles short of warranty expiring! and it's not even the year model they admit to having a problem with!!

I am really satisfied with my V2. It honestly feels and drives like a Z should now. The engine is very strong. Only thing I did was keep the rpm under 5k and never kept it at a consistent rpm for a length of time for the first 600miles. After that I drove it normal, pushing the limits on it every time.
