for the simple fact that if someone else is driving your car and they wreck it, it's YOUR fault as far as your insurance is concerned, I will NEVER let anyone other than my mechanic or tuner drive my car - which in their case the shop would be liable. I'd maybe let my dad drive it since he's driven high hp cars, but that's it.

+1 on scaring her. It worked for me. She hasn't asked to drive anything I own ever since I hit the nitrous on my Z28 in traffic back in the 80's. When my friends hear that I won't even let the wife drive it, they don't bother asking - makes it a lot easier.

I only let a few people drive mine, and somehow no matter how I warn them. They like to rip on it. One time a friend took my keys while we were drinking and behind another friends house on the beach and went for a joyride. Burned up the clutch pretty bad and apparently was 100+ in a development. Well thanks to his stupidity and my Jagermeister addiction we ended that friendship with a few black eyes and busted up mouths. At least he was way more beat up than me.

Only person that has driven my car since the turbo install is my friend that has a TT 350z, and he let me drive his car in turn.

How about respond with "honey a TT car is dangerous without proper training!" - of course you should also use that argument to pay for a few day racing course for yourself and have fun with your TT Z while raising the bar for anyone else to drive it...

This is something I've been contemplating also. I plan on running nitrous at some point, but then again I refuse to let people drive my car. Lately I've been more carefree about it and let my girlfriend drive it, but no one has yet to drive it without me in the car. But I know sooner or later it will happen. Here's my solution.

I will be installing a carputer at some point in the next few months. I will also be using that computer to control the engine, with whatever solution I end up going with (utec, uprev, etc). I want full engine control. I will also be installing a fingerprint reader in the car for password verification in windows. You won't be able to log into the carputer without me sliding my finger. So that takes care of the computer.

The other aspect is I want the option to change to different maps, which alot of these EMU can do. I will have a valet mode where they can't rev about 3krpm etc. They also won't be able to spray with this map selected. I will select a certain map, log out of windows, and there you go, a perfectly secure car.

For you, depending on what engine management you go with, you could have different boost maps set up. If you're driving, choose a more aggresive map with higher boost. If the wife is driving, put it down to 3-5lbs with a safer fuel/timing map. I would also recommend not telling about the fact you have a more powerful "setting." This seems like a great solution to your problem. Sorry for the long post!

tonight, i was letting my wife drive my Z and her friend. i trust them and they have driven it before. my car is still N/A. we got into a talk about putting a turbo on the car. i told my wife i refuse to let anyone drive it if i turbo the car. she asks why. i told her that it would be dangerous to let anyone else drive the car because they will be inclined to race and wreck. my wife has a heavy foot and her friend cant resist the urge to race my car.
i know my car very well and i have handled faster cars in the past. my wife pretty much told me that if i dont let her drive my car with a turbo on it, i wont be allowed to turbo it at all.

i explained to her that if someone blew my engine to bits due to their own stupidity or got a ticket in my car, ill be beyond pissed. some people just dont understand how much money goes into getting FI done.

i feel the only people who would drive my car are the test and tuners or people who already have turbo kits in their cars and i can confide in. what do you guys think?

You do have to learn to drive the car differently with FI, and have to be keen on keeping an eye out on the vitals/gauges, that's for sure. However, if she's your wife, and u let her drive it now, there's nothing she can do to the car if you go FI that she cant already do now. She can still race, wreck, get a ticket and still damage the motor.... If u trust her, teach her, show her what to do and what not to do. Mairrage is a comprimise, if she lets u use your guys' money on it, bet your *** you'll have to let her enjoy it somewhat! don't forget, what's yours is hers.....

yeah i was married before. my last wife would not let me do anything to a car. she forced me to save all the time. the funny part is that i was buying parts for my 89 mustang anyways and she never knew! my new wife supports me in my car efforts and is willing to help. i am probably going to let her drive but under my supervision. stuff like that takes time. if we put that much money into a car, it is going to be taken care of. i know she can take care of the car. i just need to teach her how to watch the vitals while driving and what to listen for.

my wife says she's scared to drive my Z
might be mainly the my ATS clutch etc though.
but she says if she ever did anything to hurt the car, that she doesn't to feel like I might secretely blame her. Especially when so much money is wrapped up in the car

The most she ever did was back my Z out of the garage when it was NA and had the tilton clutch in it while I was at work so she could get something out of the garage. That pretty much freaked her out with how sensitive the clutch was.
