Default Firing Order Switcheroo

I was reading an article the other day about how some tuners of, for example, gen III chevy small blocks would change the firing order with the use of a different cam. Even if all the lift and duration stayed stock but the firing order was different they would gain something like 10-15 hp (depending on how good their intake was). What do you guys think about this? I'm not sure any cams out there for the Z do this?

Matt

You'd have to change more than just the cams...

...try the crankshaft as well.

(However, since it WAS posted on the Internet, it must be true!)

^you need to watch some Horse Power TV on Spike.

I only seen this working on old chevy V8s and they do gain hp and the sound is different.

Well, the easiest way to test this would be to switch the connectors on the coils. I would suggest the guess and check method. Start by unplugging one coil, and switch it to another, and see how it runs...

Edit... ok with a crank change this makes more sense...

No, you do not change the crankshaft. Its called the 7/4 swap. You change camshafts and spark plug wire position on the distributor.
