Default Stillen flywheel????

My engine is conusming oil at an alarming rate. 1 quart every 700 miles. Even with my mods the dealer is going to install a new short block. I asked them if they would put in a lightweight flywheel and was quoted a price of free! I searched the forums for info on the Stillen flywheel and came up with nothing. I read about the ACT and Prolite flywheels and discovered that they have a tendancy to "Chatter." Is this the norm for all light weight flywheels? Any info on the Stillen flywheel would be appreicated as well as I am ingnorant.

all lightened flywheels will chatter...stillen is like 16 lbs or so, i have an rps setup and love it...nismo will be your best bet for minimal chatter

somone had a thread up last week about flywheels...they found some article saying that Nissan had found the optimum flywheel weight to cancel noise was ~ 25lbs...so if you get a ligthier flywheel, you'll also get the noise. B/C I'm willing to deal with the extra noise, i went with one of the lightier flywheels - UR's 12lb Aluminum unit - just got it in the mail last week and plan on installing it soon. (There's tons of flywheel options out there, Jun, Stillen, Nismo, JWT, ...).

How loud is the noise? I don't want my Z to sound like a fart-can Honda.

from what I've read, the noise is mainly at idle...kinda like 'chattering'. 'Fart-cans' are the exhausts

I've heard 1 Z with a lightweight flywheel and couldn't tell by the sound...but he had the Jun cromolly flywheel - I think it's around 12 lbs. I also had one on my old RX-7 and didn't notice any differences in noise...I'm hoping it's not too big of a difference; but the performance gain is worth it in my mind.

This is my daily driver as well now. I'm half tempted to sell it and buy something to drive every day & a 90' Z32 twin turbo with 16,000 original miles on it. What do you think? It's a gut wrenching decsion.

I think around $500. **When I mentioned that I didn't hear a difference in the Z with a Jun flywheel, I didn't mean that Jun's flywheel would be different than other lightweight flywheels...I would assume all lightweight flywheels would be fairly similar in noise. I mentioed it just in case there's a difference unforseen to me.

I heard that while you gain HP with a flywheel you lose torque. Is that true?
