i just check my oil level after 3,000 miles of using mobil 1 and proper break in procedure followed, my oil level is right where it was 3,000 miles before. I've always kept up with oil changes, 3,000 miles that is, and with mobil 1 oil and nissan factory oil filter.

The break-in recommendation from Nissan IIRC is 1200 miles, not 2000-3000 miles.

I followed break-in as much as possible, but like posted above, my car had some miles on it before I purchsed it.

There are other theories about how to break-in a car that have proven results, so even if not broken in right, there's supporting evidence that an easy break-in isn't necessarily required and sometimes actually delays the piston rings from sealing properly.

I was in this week for my consumption test. Had an interesting conversation with the Service Director (Many dealerships). The impression I got from him was that the dealership very much would like to swap the engine when this problem occurs, but need to make sure that they follow Nissan's procedures to verify, other wise they don't get paid. He indicated that swapping an engine is something they make good money doing.
So it occurs to me that when you have this problem, you need to speak with management immdediately so that they can oversee the process. My situation has been a good one so far (once I went to the top) because I have their backing and understanding of the problem.
I will continue to report how this goes. My next appointment is on the 7th of February which will determine consumption. We have already agreed that at this point, the engine will get swapped.
For those in the NJ area, this will set a precidence for procedure with a dealership who has handeled it well.

Did they do a compression test on your car? If not please do it. If the compression is low it would confirm in my mind that something is scoring the walls causing the problem Make sure they look at you cats very closely when they do the swap. I would give better then 50/50 odds that those are causing the problem. To many people are saying "I was fine at first and then it started" that is not a breaking in problem.

#11.? "06 touring, pure stock. 12 miles on it when I picked it up(ordered). Absolute proper break-in. Presently has 16,000 miles on it and has been consuming about 1 qt every 2000 miles. It was low at the first 3500 mile oil change. Dealer has been helpful. Absolutely no other problems.

Guess I'm # 12 on the list.
'06 Touring, stock. Picked it up new w/ 6 miles on it. Followed the break in procedure ver carefully.
Consumption increased from 1q per 1k miles to 1q per 500 miles.
Nissan finally has to buy it back after going through the lemon law process. If they'd quit delaying the dang return appointment.

I have 25K on my Z I have driven it like it was meant from the beginning, I changed the oil for the first time at 1000 miles and Ive been driving hard since the day i got it.

No Oil Consumption to speak of.

Stillin Test Pipe, Injen Exhaust, K&N drop in, it was also the first rev-up motor to come to the US. 001 of 500 35th anniversary.

06 base, hks exhaust, F5 short ram intake... have 17,200 miles. burn about a 1 1/2 qts every 1000.. proper brake in...

Bought my 06 Rev up brand new (Less than 2 or 3 miles on the odo) exactlly 1year ago. Average consumption was 1 quart every 1,000 miles. Did three 1,000 mile consumption tests at the stealer

Stealer installed a new short block and it's still using oil. After the short block swap it was initially using the same 1 quart every 1,000 miles but In the last 750 miles, since I topped it off last time, it has used 1/2 a quart, which is twice as good as it was before, so I'm watching it like a hawk now.

engine was babied <4,000 RPM both times for first 1,200 miles on the engine and 1,100 miles on the replacement short block.

In for my results today. Down 2 1/2 qts in 700 miles. I will be waiting for a phone call now from the dealer once he speaks with Nissan tomorrow.
I still think its important to keep this list going because if Nissan truly has taken a position that are no longer going to swap engines (per the other thread) then we need to be able to garner up a list that will go to a LemonLaw attorney. I found a firm that specializes in Philadelphia. Depending on what gets done here, I will have to make a decision on what to do.

Hey Guys - I just posted this info in the Sticky above but there is a very similar thread running about 35 pages on www.g35driver.com under the heading "Everyone: Check your oil". I have an 06 6MT sedan that just had the motor replaced at 8400 miles for excessive oil consumption . She was burning 2+ quarts every 3000 miles. The dealer had it about two weeks and I picked it up this past Saturday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

no lemon law here, I'm having the piston rings changed and that's it. compression test ok and pistons+clilinders within tollerance according to workshop. this sucks

Interesting course of events today. Dealership has my car for this problem in order to eval. Was called today and told that Nissan was aware but did not have a solution. I was also told that Nissan was not swapping engines because they did not know the cause.

I had an interesting conversation with another service manager who spoke at length with Nissan corp today. The Altima 2.5 had similar problems and was recalled due to a batch of rings used in certain build months of 06' that were not made to proper spec.

There is an investgation open to solve this problem, but it also seems to hinge on certain build months. This is why not everyone is experiencing the problem.

Well, after several conversations with a variety of people, I decided that it was time to get serious about resolving this. The first thing I did was write a letter to 60 Minutes detailing mine and many other blight. I then contacted Nissan consumer affairs and requested their fax. (They don't receive incoming email). I faxed off a copy of my letter to 60 Minutes and oddly enough received a call back within the hour.
The individual was polite enough and documented my story along with VIN and where the vehicle was at the moment. She informed me that someone from Nissan would contact me with 24 hours.
Within an hour after that conversation, I received a phone call from a very apologizing dealer informing me that they have been authorized to swap my long block and a new engine would arrive this Friday. They would install Monday and they sincerely apologized for the inconvienence.
The reason I started this registry was to document as many of you as possible. With your permission and your response back to me, I would like to forward your names. I will still have that conversation with this supposed big wheel with Nissan and would like to continue to insist that this problem be resolved nationally. For those of you who continue to struggle with the problem, reach out to me and let me know.

I took apart an 06 revup motor today @ the shop we had to swap out for a customer because Nissan refused to accept there was a problem with oil consuption. Every bearing in the motor had taken a beating. Crank is useless but the block was ok. I believe it had 21k miles on it.

This is one of the problems with all the threads we have about the issue. People jump onto the list but they don't even have a accurate test back from Nissan yet. We need a thread that only has people on the list that have a confirmed problem. No "I am getting a test done" stuff that inflates the entire thing.
