Default 05/06 Rev-up Oil consumption Registry

Lets approach this problem with documented cases and create a registry for those who will come after us.

I'm proposing a data base of names and contact numbers, along with any action that may have been taken by the dealer or by Nissan direct.
It will also be helpful to document what mods have been done to your vehicle.

The reason I believe this is neccessary is because I'm not accepting the response from dealers (3) that mods will void the warranty. I don't believe the mods I have done have contributed to this problem. I need to substantiate that the problem exists with or without mods. I also don't feel it should be neccessary to "hide" these mods in order for the dealer to do an oil consumption test.

If there is someone who can substantiate that the increase in breathing and exhaust will cause this consumption, please chime in!!

I'll begin:

1. Theatrix, 06' Rev up, Mods, Mrev, spacer, popcharger, hfc, cat back dual exhaust (HKS). 1qt < 1k miles

2.

By law they cannot void your warrenty due to mods unless they can specifically target the mods as being the cause.

ie: An Injen Intake on your car cannot be used as an excuse if your suspension goes out.

ie2: A turbo can be used as an excuse if your motor blows.

On my 06 I have not had this issue. I have just a pop charger and 10k miles on it.

Well, demanded the General manager today. The Service manager picked up instead. Appears that many times these issues don't get in front of the right people.
He indicated to me that one of his techs runs a Z at our local raceway and beats the sh!it out of it. Has never had a any problems. This is good. He's a guy who perhaps understands that these cars can be run hard.
He's going to speak to the regional Nissan rep for direction and indicated that this would probably result in an engine swap. We will see.

my Z's engine blew from lack of oil after 4500 miles (oil change at 100 miles). I had the motordyne MREV+ for like 2k miles. I tracked it twice at like 4k miles. Took it to the dealer and they gave me a new engine but i had to pay for the labor. Hope that helps

ok not trying to ruin your topic, but i have an 06 that just turned 7000 miles. It has redline synthetic that was put in at 3000 miles by me. Usually with all the synthetics i use i go between 4-5000 miles please advise me if i should do differently. When i went to check the oil today it doesnt even register on the stick. Any answers to the problem would be of major help. The dealer says that the 350 doesnt have any oil issues just the altima thanks sorry about the long post.

The only option at this point is to do your own consumption test first. I'm burning 1qt every 300-400 miles and I can tell when i'm down by watching my oil pressure gauge. If its not touching the stick then you are atleast 1 1/2 to 2 qts down after 4/5k which in my book would be to much consumption.

Nissan has of yet to admit a problem. They seem to be handling on a case by case basis.

The purpose of this registry was to compile a list that could be presented to an attorney who would be willing to look at a class action suit which would compel nissan to act. Up to this point, there has been more talk than action by Z owners regarding the problem. The reality is that you must first attempt to have the problem resolved by the dealer. It has taken me several conversation all the way up the ladder to finally get someones attention.

My engine will be swapped at the completion of the consumption test. Best of luck.

wow....thats crazy! yah im kind of scared to track the z, i really want to get started and learn how to track and what not, but with this oil consumptin problem, i dotn want stuff like that happening, more headaches than just dealing with the current problem.

also in regards to this thread....i was talking to my uncle at nmetro nissan, andhe said not many zs come for this problem, just a few Gs before and the recalled altimas or whatever....so im just wondering are there really that many people with the consumption problem? i mean how many are there in this froum alone? i know not everyone says soemthing about it on the forums, and there are people who dont know what really goes on when they get serviced. but is there that many?

06 rev-up with about 7,000 miles on it.
mods: JWT popcharger, dc sport headers, kinetix HFC's, Mrev2 5/16, unichip, Stillen true dual exhaust.
Oil consumption is just about half a quart every 2,000 miles....
I run my car up to redline at least once a week and drive it vigorisouly during the week. I have always used valvoline 10-30 dino oil

06 rev up- pop charger.

It used to burn 1qt every 1k miles, when it had about 8k miles. Now I have 16k miles, and it burned only 1/2 quart in the first 1k. 2,800 miles later, its still down only 1/2 quart. I used the same oil, Mobil 1.

06 touring, no mods, 13k miles, no oil consumption issues.

Out of curiosity, how many of you with this issue honestly followed the break-in rpm limit for the entire 2 or 3 thousand miles, I forget now what the limit was.

How many people actually can follow the break in period. I got mine with 200 miles. Do you honestly think the thing was babied. Do you honestly think any nice car on the lot is babied. Thats a little unrealistic. Honestly breakin is not an issue. If the car is not burning oil at 700miles there is no reason for it to start later.

My point was, and I'm an engineer that designs things so I do the same stuff with my products, but limits are set like that, albeit conservatively to ensure that something doesn't happen. 9 out of 10 times nothing will happen, but unless you know the engine limitations inside and out and the weaknesses and stress points something could possible happen. It's not a probability of 0. The limitations are there for a reason and should be followed as closely as possible to avoid issues, I'm sure everyone can agree. But to what extent those limits are fudged to ensure normal system operation only the designer who has fully tested the design knows and at that only to a point depending on the number of samples tested.
