Default NA guys...anyone built your heads?? How much power are you seeing?

Sup fellas,

Going to be building some heads for my Z in the next few weeks. Just wondering if any of you NA guys have P&P, upgraded valvetrain, cams, etc your heads and what kind of power gains did you see on the Z. I am going to do this reguardless of power gains....just wanting to know what to expect out of the Z. Thanks guys!

Im planning to do the same thing, want to keep my car as reliable as possible since this is my only car at the moment. From what i have read about p&p and cams you can see about 310-350WHP depending on the heads and cams you use, plus a good tune.

Anyone have dyno charts? Those numbers seem high for just some head work.

BTW - I'm pushing 247whp all motor with i/h/e, tp, spacer, UTEC, flywheel/clutch. I have nitrous, but we're talking all motor at this point. I understand different dynos produce different numbers.....but I doubt I'd gain 100whp with head work and the numbers I currently produce. I'm thinking maybe after built heads and cams.....maybe 280-295whp (in my case)?

yea, built motor also means built block. Increasing displacement when you build the block will give you more power. 15whp with just heads? That kinda blows. lol. Oh well...block after that with 11.5:1 and a big shot of spray coming soon. SGP, you're fixing to make a few more bucks! lmao.

lol, i know what you mean. it sucks to know that you cant make much power n/a with out building the block. but whatever, im going to do heads & cams with a 100-150 shot. should be alot of fun!!!

The bad thing is you cant really get huge cams for these engine like around .550" lift. Well at least im not aware of it if you can. I would of liked cams somewhere around .500" in my engine.

NA/nitrous/turbo cams all have different profiles. NA/nitrous cams can have similar profiles, but turbo...is definitely different. I don't need anything extreme....I'll probably just regrind mine since I don't see alot of nitrous cams out there.

Just your LSA is all thats diffrent. You want around 114 degree centerline for forced induction. 110-112 is better i think. This is just so it doesnt blow the boost out the exhaust valve. The lopey idle on muscle cars from wider seperation angles like 120 degrees. Because the exhaust valve is open longer while the intake valve is open.

Yeah thats Richie from Australia. I forgot his forum name. He did a complete build and can rev his Z to 8k rpm. If you use Nismo s2 heads, cams, uprgrade the valve train, bore out cyl. to 3.8l, high comp pistons, connecting rods, ITB kit, long tubes, dual exhaust with a X pipe, all the bolt ons and a tune with a standalone, I am sure you can hit more that 330whp. Richie is using s1 heads and cams... the s2 makes more power. But this will be $$$.

Not too much into Nismo's products. Going to build my heads with SGP's head packages. Gonna buy some stock heads from a forum member (if pics look good) and build those so my car isn't down and I can return it to stock using my stock heads. I want to stroke the motor, but GTM's pricing is real high and I still haven't seen the R&D results yet. I think I just might resleeve and bore it out. Less expensive and it has been prove over and over to work.

100mm pistons give you a 3.8 liter. Or do a shortstroke 3.2 and make a 9krpm motor.
