Default TO NA or NOT TO NA

Hey guys I have just bought another VQ block and I am actually considering on going NA with this one. I have experience with turbo motors dealing with the 2JZ and VQTT but keeping in mind that power to dollar ratio is not my concern. I know that I will get more bang for the buck going w/ a forced induction setup yet I still want to do something different. I have eexperience with NA honda motors also.
When I say I want to go NA I mean full NA build a high compression bottom end, port polish heads, cutom intake mainfold, aggrsieve cams, titanium valve train, standalone and a mean *** tune. I was thinking of the crower stroker kit and looking to put 400hp to the ground.
I believe that is a realistic figure to be asking for 100hp per liter is not rediculouse in the NA world.

Any suggestions before I begin?

that's a lot to ask and you might want to do a stroker kit while you're at it to make that kind of power. If I were you and looking for 400bhp with a nice power curve then I would just go with a Vortech.

I don't know, I used to read quite a few Mustang magazines and don't remember ever reading about a 500+ hp 5.0 motor. So 400 from a 3.5 or 3.7, I don't know.

I'd love to see SOMEONE finally hit the elusive 300whp mark. I know its only a matter of time, and its gonna take someone w/ cashflow. That said, 100hp/L is gonna be tough. I for one love a good NA setup and sound/response that goes w/ it. If you have the funds and tuning ability please go for it and document the progress for us fellow members. A stroker would be badass for sure!

c'mon...appled and oranges...SOHC pushrod vs 4 cam V6. It's more than possible with a stroker, standalone, 7500revs, cammed, ported, oversized valved, etc, VQ motor.

LOL....thanks for noticing I have been loading my weapon with Ammo and took a year to finally give in!

a stroker is definitely the plan. I am going to spend 12K with my eyes closed to build a bottom end and a turbo kit, so why not spend the same 12 K and build a badass NA setup. the crower stroker will put me at just over 4.1 with oversized (100mm)pistons, that and some major head work, high revs, I really don't see why a vq could not put out 100hp/L...if honda does it why can't nissan...i.e. b16a 1.6L 160hp... f20c(s2000) stock puts out 120hpL at 240hp....
I think its more than do-able. most people would much rather spend their money on forced induction but I have been through my share of trials and tribulations with NA-T cars that I don't want to go through it again. I see the aftermarket potential and development of the vq. I have the longblock ready to be disassembled...
I also have the 6spd that Im going to have rebuilt so that I have a fresh tranny.

this will be a long project since I am going to fully build the motor before I even start looking for a shell. I should have the motor built and ready for the end of the summer.

My Project just got stronger!!!! with the release of the 380RSZ in Japan rated at roughly 395hp tells me this is a sure thing. I m considering either doing the 07 dual intake system or ITB's.

Good luck, but I don't think any of us will have the attention span to wait till the end of the summer! LOL

True that, I suggest figuring out the proper parts/info and just built it. Then surprise everyone w/ it after it's been completed and dont forget dyno results and videos!

This is a amazing goal you have set forth... N/A guys and myself can only hope that this build is successfull ! Im building an N/A set-up myself with a little less power in mind. My goal is to hit a solid and reliable 300whp mark for my DD street/tracked Z.

Oh, BTW 400hp to the ground would be nearly 460+ crank HP so I think you need to adjust your goals a little.

sell the VQ35 and drop a LS1 in there, since you want an all motor car.

Make sure you keep us informed with the build... I am in the same lane as you with doing research for an N/A build.. You definitely will need a new HEAD/CAM package and completely different intake system. ITB's would be the way to go. put some picks up along your build journey.. GOod luck
