Default '07 VQ35HR - Still consuming oil?

Well I'm sure there are a few of us out there wondering if Nissan corrected the consuming oil problem plagueing the Rev-up motors. For those that own a '07 have you guys noticed anything?

I doubt most people have driven it enough to even go past 3,000 miles.. It might be a while.

My 07 makes the oil it consumes and breaks perfectly even!

The 07 engine is essentially the same block with a different intake system according to the local service director. I asked if the ECM programming had changed to accomodate the change and if it would consume oil and he didn't know for sure but said he wouldn't be surprised if it did. At least if it does you can say the ball is already rolling thanks to us 06 guys.

maybe you should read up on the HR engine your self. http://www.vq35hr.com/

"Start with a completely redesigned cylinder block with significantly improved rigidity, increase the redline to 7500 rpm, increase fuel efficiency by 10%, throw in continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) on the intake side and electromagnetic valve timing control (e-VTC) on the exhaust side, decrease friction through application of the world's first hydrogen-free, diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating of internals, add super-ignition iridium spark plugs, and fast light-off O2 sensor control... Whew! That ought to do it! "

^Good stuff. I was having a hard time finding that info.. that's what I actually told him originally and he supposedly looked it up on the computer and thought it was the same. I try to give these guys the benefit of the doubt since it's their job. I know my job so I'd hope they'd know their job.

That sounds promising.. hopefully once the lemon process is over I'll be in an 07.

Nissan still doesn't know why the rev up is consuming oil. They are stopping motor replacements until they find out what the problem is. My friend had a 06 with 5k on it they were trying to tell him it's the owners responsibility to check the oil. He was down 3 qts in 2 days. Yes the right amount of oil was put when he changed it he builds cars. It will be interesting to see what is causing the problem.

^Check out the 2006 Oil Consumption thread. They have a good idea of what's causing it.. they just haven't figured out how they are going to go about fixing it and don't think it will be anytime soon.

YES! It is owners responsibility to check the oil!
AND TO KEEP IT CONSTANTLY FULL UNTIL IT IS DETERMINED TO BE USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS.

I hope all you guys with '07's are still watching your oil levels like a hawk! It seems that some 06's show the problem pretty early.

My point is that low oil level that doesn't meet the usage necessary for engine replacement can still cause excessive wear..........if you care about after warranty life you are wise to constantly check the oil level because you never know what the future will bring.

I remember when it was just standard proceedure to check oil every time you added gasoline.

Very true. To take that further, just because a vehicle does not meet Nissan's guidelines for excessive oil consumption does not mean that there is not a problem. If you have to add oil between oil changes, there is a problem. If you have to add a qt or more between oil changes, there is a very serious problem.

Keep an eye on those dipsticks 07 owners. It will still be a while though before you will know if the problem still exists.
