Good luck to everyone that took their car in to the dealer to get this matter taken care of. I will get an answer the next time i take my vehicle in to get my oil change. So we will see.

 

I have an 06 an I just checked my oil today, it was about 75% full. The oil was changed in early Dec, so I guess my motor is ok.

Ok i know i am off the topic. But i went to the dealer because my wheels were stained after they washed my car. They got some of it off but there are still alot of stains on my vehicle.

Can anyone help me and let me know what product to use and how to take it off?? I started a new thread regarding this matter. You can eith comment on this thread or the new thread. Please help!!!!!!

 

I don't understand what stained it. Any pics? Why isn't the delaer taking care of this? (they did it, right?). Are the wheels and the car stained?

 

I dont have any pictures yet. I had it at the dealer during my lunch break so i couldnt really have them work on it. I have some products that i can try. First i am going take all my wheels off and wash it with soap and water. And then use a product to clean it

I have a chrome polish product and the dealer gave me a rim and chrome was product that should take it off. So i am going to try it tomorrow. If it doesnt work, the dealer said for me to drop the car off on Monday and they will work on it. So she was really kool about it.

And she saw my wheels when i brought it in yesterday to get it serviced. And she knows that it wasnt me. And she told the peeps at nissan that it wasnt my fault and that they did something wrong. So i am going to work on it and see what happens.

If it doesnt come off i am going to take it back and have the dealer fix it.

 

Am I crazy, or are we talking about rims in an oil consuption thread?

 

Yeah we are. Side tracked for a bit. Needed some help on my rims.

 

Well I picked up my Z this afternoon. We have started the oil consumption test, will continue for the next 3k miles(checking oil levels every 1k miles). The service advisor said the gray residue I found on my dipstick was "blow off" from the rings, pistons, etc. I thought blow off was black, not gray with shiny particles???. Unfortunately, I did not get a sample before having the oil changed today to analyize. But if metal shavings were there before, they will be there again at the next oil change.

 

Yeah it should be there on your next oil change as well. You should have them do a thorough check on your car next time. See where the metal shaving is coming from. That could really damage your engine. Have them catch it before they blame you when something goes wrong.

So how much were you low on your oil??? Mine was 1 quart

 

Mine was a quart low too. Oh well, that's enough headache for one day! I'm hittin the town.

 

As soon as i get off work, I am going to get shattered tonight. I have more then just the oil problem to deal with. Still have my stained rims i need to work on over the weekend. Or have my car dropped off at the dealer if i cant get it.

Just bought those wheels too. So annoying. Well have a great weekend everyone.

 

I am in the bay area and taking my Z in for an oil change tomorrow. I amgoing to ask and let you know what they say.

 

my motor was replaced within the first 2000 miles. perf. nissan replaced the block only for my car but when they had it they told me that my car had no oil when they got it and said that the noise i was hearing was the rods knocking. =\

 

Please rename this thread. THERE IS NO ENGINE RECALL.

 

Side note on this topic: Usually when I buy new cars I follow the manufactures break-in instructions exactly. My previous car 02 Altima 3.5SE 5-speed was broken in using the suggested method, that thing burned oil like crazy over the 54,000 miles I owned it. This 06 Z (built 8/05) I decided to take a different approach, I walked out started the car up drove it normal (had like 7 miles on it at this point) let it warm up, then gave it a bunch of full throttle runs through the gears/engine braking to slow down all the way home, and around town for like 50 miles. When I got home I changed the oil right away, I could tell there were metallic shavings in the oil, exactly what I wanted to happen. I heard of this method from a local engine builder race shop owner and friend. This is how he breaks in motors that he builds after he lets the cam settle. Since then I have put over 15,000 miles on the car, changing the oil/filter every 3,000 miles using regular oil. I haven’t burn a drop of oil, my car runs quieter and faster than any other stock 06 350z I have come across.

well I had my oil changed at the dealer today. I asked them to check if the oil was low and did it burn. All was a ok oil level was normal and no oil burn. so I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

 

Did you check it yourself before you asked the "honest" dealer to check it. I always no how much I am down before going to the dealer. This is especially important when they are documenting. If you know they are wrong, let them know or go to another dealer.

 

If you really want a new engine, just drain a little out of the pan before you take it in for the next oil change. But don't do it hot! You will end up losing all the oil.

 

went to the dealer, they admit there's oil consumption problem. however, when they are doing test w/ centeral tech, they claim 0.5 quart every 1000miles is NORMAL!!! WTF.... and even the service manager agrees that can't be normal but the dealer can't do anything about it. just tell me to keep an eye on the oil level. He also alleges Nissan knows there's a problem but don't have solution to it. Nissan is just putting us to our risk after warranty expires!!!.........................and Counsumer Affairs allege there's no recall due to not enough complaint!!!

SO ALL 350Z OWNERS SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT ON THE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION!!!
