They can say whatever they want, but they since they do not list what is normal anywhere, they would lose out on any lemon law filed.

FYI, as you already know, that is not normal.

I have 7000 miles now on my '06. Have had 2 oil changes and I've driven 1000 miles since the second change. I have averaged 0.5 quart per 1000 miles since new. I drive about 1000 miles a month, so every 3000 miles/3 months I do an oil change. My low oil light never comes on, no pinging or rattling, and the pressure gauge always works/reads normal, high under load/low at idle.
Question, how low does it have to go for damage to occur? Will down 1.5 quarts at 3000 cause a problem? Is there adequate oil to protect the engine as it approaches the 3000 mile change? Thanks.

John

as far as what i know engine oil is for engine lubercation. there's 5 quarts in the engine. so if 1.5quarter out of 5 is out = 30%. That means the engine is not lubercating 30%. what damage do u know that will cause???

Also, I asked the deal and consumer affairs to give me technical support to state how 0.5 quarts every 1000miles is considered as normal. They just deny my request stating they'll not provide that. WTF!

I read a lemon law case in which the manufacturer said the oil consumption was normal, but since it was not stated anywhere as what was normal oil consumption they lost. Nissan is just banking on people not following through and just accepting it.

Actually, the best way to start it is through the better business bureau:

Yeah, or for that matter, just dump a handful of metal shavings into the oil before you go in for the consumption test. That should get their attention. Lol! Just kidding, that would be like fraud, wouldn't it?!? Nevermind, forget I said that.

So I have an 07 with 4400 miles on it. I also have the rattle that sounds like its coming from my Y pipe. I had the Y pipe replaced with no change in the sound. Oil level so far is full and has not changed. Any more 07's with the same issue let me know please.

Some people purposely don't fill all 5 qts to give a dry-sump-like effect (even though it's still a wet sump) and it gives a little more power since you don't have the losses of the crank shaft being covered in oil. I'm sure 3.5/5 qts isn't harmful... but probably close. All 5 qts are not used by the engine... think of it like your coolant expansion... a level of coolant that's there to serve as backup if the system needs more coolant.
