Default Plenum spacer causing oil loss??

I've researched all up and down trying to decide what spacer to get. While at the Nissan dealer today i was talking to their head mechanic (also a Z owner) he said he didn't recomend the spacers cause he has had a handfull of Z's, rev-up and non-rev up, come in with oil loss issues after installing plenum spacers?? Now i have not seen a single post here to back that up, but on the other hand i have known this individual for quite a while now, and he knows his stuff pretty good. So i don't know what to believe, and i'm a little crushed 'cause next week i planned on buying the Kinetics Upper plenum. Any comments??

I don't see how that would be possible. Only air flows through the plenum. There is nothing to connect it to any of the oiled part of the engine. The only oil it gets close to is the vapor that is drawn back into the intake via the PCV valve.

I agree! The only down side of this mod i know of is that i've heard it makes you run a little lean. Would that cause oil consumption??

You got me. If the mechanic would post an explanation here, I sure would like to read it.

Thats a typical statement comeing from a "head" Mechanic now days----He's full of ****

If they are losing oil, Its not becuse of the spacer. Thats like sayin ---Jeez, my clutch is slipping, must be that new air cleaner I put in.

Normally i'd be the first to agree with that. Only reason i gave it a second thought is because he has always helped me out, gave me alot of freebies, and never tried to tell me any outrageous things were wrong with my Z. (after 3 trannys and two clutches under warranty in the past 9 months) But you do have a valid point. All i can think is it was a coincidence, and they were just poorly maintained and rev-up oil eating motors.

sounds like a dealer that doesnt want to replace you engine for eatting oil, and he is trying to put the problem on the spacer

when you smash-in the oil pan with a plenum spacer in your hand, you may lose oil.
