Nismo Parts
Since this poll/thread has come back to life, I'm really looking forward to you guys comparing your actual experiences to my HP guestimates. I want to know if I should be making a trip to Vegas or not
I've also decided that I will fully trick out my DB Track Z for the racetrack after the warranty is over (and I've finished building by real racecar). Driving the 350Z on public streets really sucks. The cops are now everywhere thanks to recent budget deficits here in NC. They must have been given orders to get out there and generate some revenue cause it feels like the police force has trippled.
All I can say is this, there must be a lot of donut shops hurting for business
Anyway, I have a source for 18" Dunlop Gran-Am practice tires when I get my act together. We are talking WELL OVER 1G from just the tires, let alone supsension and weight reduction.
I say, FUKK the highway. Mod the hell out of your Z and then take it to your local road course. Enjoy!

There has been so much talk about SC and TT kits coming out. The Greddy, Nismo, Stillen etc. Nissa comes out with a sport car yet has not been specific on when Nismo will be offered in USA. I have been reading posts on all these products for months yet no products, no documentation of performance. I am for one, frustrated with NISMO and hope that these products will be offered soon. Honestly, it is not like it is a difficult feat for a car company to design a Turbo or SC. They have had these products on Nissans for years. The key role the 350Z has for Nissan is building a performance image for the entire product line. For every person that likes the Z, there will most likely be 10 buyers of Altimas that went to looked at the Z but opted for a 4 seater car for pratical reasons. Going along with being an image builder, IMHO, the Z needs to have the option of having a TT or SC bolted on. Can you imagine Motor tread comparing a TT 350Z with 400+ HP to a 911 TT and it is less than half the cost and performes on that level. That will sell more Nissans of all types and even if they sell the TT at a loss, they will come out ahead.

Latest update is at the link at the top of this thread:

Speaker was Ken Zapp, Senior Marketing Manager, for Nismo, NNA.
There will be an announcement regarding Nismo at:
SEMA International Auto Salon
Friday, April 25, 2003
Los Angeles Convention Center
Los Angeles, CA
Scafremon took the following notes from the Group Z Club Meeting tonight:
* The formal launch for Nismo in US is this fall, but because of the pressure from enthusiasts, they are doing an early launch in June.
* The early launch will consist of limited products for the 350Z and Sentra SE-R. Ken couldn't say which products will be in the early launch, but thinks it will be Lifestyle Products (Shirts and stuff), suspension, and cat-back exhaust (which he said creates a 6-8 hp increase at rear wheels).
* The formal launch will include more products for these 2 cars, and also include parts for the Altima, Frontier, and Exterra.
* The full Japanese catalog will not be included in the US. This is due to regulations, and also NNA's determination on which products will do well here, and which won't.
* While Nismo in Japan is a separate company, Nismo US is a part of NNA. There are no plans to open Nismo stores in US - parts will be sold through dealers.
* Some things will be different between US and Japan. Example is the Nismo spoiler. In Japan, it is fiberglass, in US it is urethane.
Interesting tidbit: The Nismo spoiler was actually designed by Sony for on of their games. Sony was adding the 350z to their game and wanted a spoiler on it before Nismo had designed one. So Sony submitted their design to Nismo, Nismo tested it, and since it was a legit performance enhancer design, created it as a product.
* There are two classes of products:
S-Tune and R-Tune
S-Tune products are street designed products and carry a Nissan warranty, when installed by a dealer.
R-Tune are competition products are not warranted by dealers since the products are for track application.
* There are no current plans to carry over Nismo parts for the Infinity G35.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I've read elsewhere that dealers will be able to being ordering a limited selection of Nismo parts beginning June 16th. Not sure how accurate that is, but seems in line with the timeline mentioned above.

[B]Several things to note here.
1. FYI - In the original poll, swaybars is listed. There is actually no such thing as a swaybar on a car. A swaybar is a very very generic name for an anti-roll bar. The purpose of the bar is to limit body roll (hence the name) and to transfer loading from one tire to the other. There is no such vehicle dynamic trait of sway, or body sway, hence the name is not correct. Likewise, stabilizer bar is not correct either because they can often make the vehicle very unstable.
Why would anti-roll bar "make the vehicle very unstable"? too rigid/skipping? Just curious b/c i plan to mod my Z for the best handling i can get.

1. We all know that swaybars and antiroll bars are the same.
2. If your anti-roll bars are too stiff, they will negate the action of your independent suspension by not allowing each wheel its own movement when you encounter bumps. It can cause "bump steer", like the live axles on a Mustang or F body. Hit a bump, hop to one side because the action is transferred to the wheel not hitting the bump also. The only time you wou want that much stiffness is if you are on a smooth racetrack. Driving it on the street would be very uncomfortable. S-Tune=street, RTune=track.

That is why many Europeans don't even use sway bars. They believe that a properly tuned suspension does not need them. Hopefully, I can get some good coilovers and properly adjust them so that I can retain the benefits of the IRS and just leave the factory sways on there or remove them and save a bunch of weight.
And don't correct me using the term sway bars because I think it is stupid to argue over semantics and it never changes the point of anything. It is just annoying. Thanks!

Got all my paper work from NMC today. I have made my first Nismo order and it should be shipped on the 16th. This stage is a little on the weak side, just intake, exhaust, shift *****, lic frames, stabilizer bars, spring/shocks, floor mats, headers, cams, brake pads, flywheel, and a power steering cooler. As always we offer the Forum members 25% off on parts, but with Nismo the mark up to the dealers sucks. So we can only offer between 10% and 20%. Sorry.
