I was looking at buying a miata, and had pretty thoroughly investigated the turbo market to get to the performance I wanted... when the 350z was announced with the performance I was shooting for right out the door - and for the same or lower price!

But seriousely, I have a friend putting out 425 rwhp in a 93 RX-7. That car is scary fast. I don't know if I will ever need more than the stock engine puts out, but that's what he thought when he bought the rx-7. Then again, he's crazy... In anycase, if I ever do upgrade, I don't think I will be willing to put out $6K for less than a 100-125hp increase, because I suspect I would be targeting the Z06. Should be able to do that safely with a supercharger running 6-8 psi.

The Z would be just fine with +100 hp. If the clutch and rear diff, tires, etc. would handle it, I have no trouble with "why" - if you can push the car's envelope today with only ~290 hp at the crank, why not more?

Two things I'm warming up to with my Z - 1) More hp, and 2) Better Brakes.

Jeff,

Thanx for posting your prices, live near your dealership. Any idea on how much to install the following:

Headers
Exhaust
Camshafts
Flywheet
P/S oil cooler

Oh and did Nismo post any HP #s on their exhaust and headers?

You can post it $ or just e-mail me.

I just had my Nismo Cat Back Exaust put on at the dealer... charged 100 for the install... got the part for about 1150 after tax... (im in cali)

The dealer wont put on the cold air intake / headers because they will void the nissan warrenty / not covered under warenty...

Nissan will install any S-Tune part.. not R-Tune...

It would be pretty hard to void a customers warranty.... especially if they are using all Nismo parts. Call me anytime and we'll talk about it. BTW, we're very mod friendly, come to me for warranty repairs!!

Why? Do they refuse to stock NISMO parts as well? I suppose some dealerships could regard them as a headache they could do w/o, they could be, I suppose.

You hit it on the head. I make more money on a tune up than I do with these Nismo parts. BUT, I enjoy doing this for this Forum. I give you guys the best deal I can and we all have fun with the mod fever!!

Mr. NISMO said Nissan was recommending the flat rate pricing for installing NISMO parts be the same as installing a regular part. Can you do that and still make money?

Our store uses internal rate for Nismo installs. Yes, flat rate time from the warranty manual, but when has anybody been faster than warranty time? Again, we're here for the fun of it all. At the place I work, MOST of us race something...... such is life in So. California.
