Beefing Up Drive Train
There are a lot of people going forced induction lately and it seems that there is an interest in beefing up various parts of the drive train to handle the extra torque.
I've seen people mention various manufacturers for pistons, rods, crank shaft, diffs, etc. But never any mention of the manual transmission. To me, it seems that this part of the drive train would be the weak link.
How do you beef up the MT? Is it possible? Or do you have to buy an entirely new race car tranny if you want something stronger?
Thanks,
Jeff

Well the clutch would be the weakest before the tranny. You can swap in dog gears, but I don't think the Z tranny is that weak at all. do you have any evidence to support that claim?

I've heard the rumors that the 350Z tranny will be shared with the GTR.
GTR concept pics here:

However even if the basic layout of the MT is shared with a 450hp car, I would guess that corners are cut where money can be saved. Maybe the synchro material is skimped on, gears are a lower grade alloy, or whatever. That's not to say that the Z tranny is bad at handling stock power. It may even easily handle Procharger levels of power for several years.
I'm just thinking that after everything else has been beefed up, and the power is cranked up, the weak link remaining will be the tranny.
If it can hold 500-600hp at even a shortened lifespan, I imagine most people will just ignore it.
